FBI Investigating Unusual Ferry Passengers
Edited on Tue Aug-21-07 12:44 PM by rsmith6621
SEATTLE -- The Seattle Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Washington Joint Analytical Center are asking for the public’s help identifying two individuals who have been seen aboard Washington state ferries on several occasions.

According to authorities, the two men have exhibited unusual behavior while aboard the ferries.

Numerous passengers have reported the strange behavior.

Being young, male, and Arab looking while standing around with hands in pockets?

5. Yeah, knowing a bit more about the strange behavior would be useful.
Otherwise I'm betting that you have listed the important reasons fellow passengers were concerned. They look like 9/11 hijackers, don't they? x(

21. It must have been the hoping on one leg while screaming out the
music from Oklahoma at the tops of their lungs that got them the "strange behavior" monica.

3. Didn't Michael Moore point out our huge unguarded border with Canada in F9/11?
But them, MM is just a crazy loony left-wing moonbat, right? He couldn't possibly have had a point, could he?

And now, it's 2007 and our borders are STILL totally unguarded. Maybe we need a Department of Homeland Security or something...

IIRC, there are Jews, Catholics, Orthodox, other Christians, Zoroastrians, and other religions the DHS has never heard of. "That part of the world" being roughly bordered by Portugal, Western Sahara, Pakistan, and Armenia.

18. Here's what I can tell you
The article made an error, there actually were three men involved in several incidents.
Their strange behavior involves this.
Always embarking the ferry separately, then meeting up at a remote cabin location once on-board.
Taking pictures of what may not be the typical tourist attractions. Example: the ferries electrical power circuit breakers, off limit locked engine room doors, rescue boat locations, safety gear lockers, fire extinguishers, locked wheelhouse doors etc.
I know when I'm a tourist I don't find these things especially photogenic. Not only were all these things photographed from several angles, every single locked door was tried repeatedly. All of these doors are clearly labeled "No Admittance" .
Once the ferry landed, they separated, walked off individually, bought another ticket and rode the same exact same trip again. They did this several times. Now I know when I'm traveling with family and friends, we never intentionally separate when boarding a plane, train or ferry and then re-join only to once again distance ourselves from each other upon landing. They were on their cell phones constantly and observed making sketches of the ferrie's layout and floor plan. They were also observed leaning way out over the safety railings and taking pictures of the ferrie's hull and waterline.
The same trio of men were also later observed on two other ferry routes, miles away, riding the trip repeatedly, taking the same type of pictures of locked compartments and safety gear. Their photos of any landscape subjects were limited to the extensive U.S. Navy installations visible on the ferrie's route.
They have been observed exhibiting this identical behavior on different ferries over a period of months.

29. Not quite. My prediction is they will hijack a ferry and use it to attack
the naval facilities.

Let me guess - the FBI is "on" this, but hasn't bothered to notify DHS.

Either that, or Bush has already got a PDF re this serious threat and has chosen to ignore it, ot LIHOP.

27. If all that's true, then isn't this article the best way to -NOT- apprehend them?
Wouldn't putting some officers on the ferries be a bit
more effective than putting their pictures in the paper
and tipping them off that they're under suspicion?

This just smells like another "be afraid" campaign aimed
at the general public.

30. yes, you would think so.
If someone has their picture splashed all over the media and they are indeed up to no good, then you would think the scrutiny would make them disappear into the background to take the heat off.
Maybe the FBI is hoping someone will come forward to rat them off.
Also, it was the "general public" observing these guys (along with an alert crew) that was so alarmed by what they saw that the FBI was called in.
The millions of working commuters who ride these boats daily, think of these ferries as their own and they don't take kindly to anyone who might wish them or these boats any harm.
Also, there are State Patrol and their nitrate sniffing canines present on most of the boats and terminals. There isn't yet the man-power or funding to have a total complete presence on all ferries or terminals 24/7.

at the dock to check them out? Who took the pictures? This story smells like last week's catch-of-the-day that somebody left out in the sun...

44. The Captain did file a report and call it in
That's how the feds got involved.
Ferries now have security cameras everywhere running all the time. There are signs posted informing the public of this.
Does anyone remember a guy named Ressam who was arrested after getting off a ferry in Port Angeles WA. that had just arrived from Victoria BC on December 14th 1999?
He made sure he was the last one off the ferry thinking he wouldn't be scrutinized as much.
He had bogus ID and there was an arrest warrant for him in Canada under his real name.
When a very alert U. S. Customs agent at the ferry landing noticed he had a bead of sweat on his brow and was also extremely nervous, she asked him for more ID. He showed her a Costco card.
They asked him to get out of his vehicle and he took off running. He tried to hide under a parked car downtown but was dragged out and tackled.
They found his rental car's trunk was full of nitro.
His intension was to blow up Los Angeles LAX airport on New Year's Day 2000.

They should have studied harder, on how to appear completely innocent. Hands thrust into the pockets and squinting stewie-griffin-like into security cameras just isn't smart! You gotta wave your arms around, snapping your fingers, while whistling an indecipherable tune :D.
