Greg Palast's Armed Madhouse: Anyone else read/reading it?
Man oh man that guy is great. I can't believe all the stuff he has dug up. He tells a maddening tale in a funny way although I have to admit I wasn't laughing much at the chapter on Big Oil and the horrors the Iraqis face.

He makes the most believable case I've heard yet for what "logical" reason we are in this mess...we had to STOP the flow of oil from Iraq, not increase it. This is about the oil, but the neocons and Big Oil had opposite agendas. Big Oil won.

I've not finished it yet, though.

Any other opinions?

And, for the tin foil hat crowd, I had to jump a bit at his reference to JFK and Big Oil. My father and others maintain the Mob killed him. I feel that the BFEE is worse than the Mob. When I read that, I had to wonder who really killed JFK? :tinfoilhat:

1. YEP! I'm a little over half way through the book. There were many
jaw dropping moments so far, and I'm sure many yet to come! I know when I read the first few chapters, I asked other DUers how much they trusted and believed what Palast wrote! what he says is believable, but is it really true? Most of the responses I got said they trusted his info.

2. Seriously. The guy has the only explanation for all this that makes sense to me
And he has sources from the inside who told him all this stuff. Some who knew they were telling and others who didn't.

I'll have to search for your thread.

3. I'm about a 3rd of the way in. It's terrific.
I think it may go down as the ultimate primer on this administration.

I'm this close to getting my rightwing friend to read it.

4. I read it and enjoyed it. Except for his dropping the ball on peak oil
Here is an open letter to Greg from Richard Heinberg, considered one of the authorities on the topic.

5. Read it when it first came out. Last year? Or 2005?

6. read it last month and asked the same question.
He also covers Venezuala very well too. I left the book with my dad, I haven't talked with him about it yet. I thought it was great. I also read "the Best Democracy Money Can Buy", Armed Madhouse rehashes some of that. Seems it's all about the IMF and the World Bank.

7. I'm just starting it.
Last year, my fundie, hard-core right-wing father was down for a visit, and I gave him a copy of "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy". He finally got around to reading it recently.

He called me a couple of weeks ago, and asked, "Are you the one who gave me this book"? I said yes.

He said, "That's the best book I ever read". My mother said he couldn't put it down.

I'll finish Armed Madhouse this week, and I'll drop it off with him when I visit next week.
