Al Gore is NOT running for President.
Edited on Thu Feb-08-07 10:57 PM by Finnfan
I wish he would, but he's not.

What he's doing is brilliantly exploiting the possibility that he MIGHT run as a way to continue to get publicity for his Climate Change awareness campaign.

I believe if he ran for President now, this would all smack of the opposite: exploiting climate change for his own personal ambition. I don't believe that that's what he's doing, and I don't think he wants to be seen as doing that.

Bookmark this thread. If he wins, someone in this thread who does not have a star will get one.

1. I will not buy Snickers products and I mean it.
I am boycotting them for what are important reasons to me.

7. I understand.
My bet was meant as a little DU meta-joke, and not as an endorsement of the bigoted advertisements. I think maybe I'll change it, to avoid having this thread become something completely different then I intended it to be.

2. Seems like a win-win situation. If you're right, climate change continues
to get lots of attention. If you're wrong, Gore runs for President (and climate change probably gets equal attention).

11. I do too.
If he ran, he'd have my vote. I just don't think it's in the cards.

5. I think you are right.
And although I'd LOVE to vote for him again, I think he'd be doing the best thing if he doesn't run.

16. It isn't discouraging them? Five minutes after I started the thread?
:D

I'm not really trying to discourage anyone. I would vote for him if he ran. It's just that I believe that it's very unlikely that he will run.

Continue to encourage. I've been wrong once or twice before.

9. Why mix doing the right thing with running for political office?

20. What does it say about the political system when...
doing the right thing and running for political office are mutually exclusive?

Wrong and corrupt.

10. I really wish you are wrong. In an ideal world, everything you just posted would be wrong.
But you're right. If he runs it might, for a spell, seem like he was exploiting global warming. Certainly the American public who live within the penumbra of the right wing smear machine will hear nonstop that Gore was using the issue. But if he's drafted, it will seem less so. And either way, I hope, once he was to speak with his calm (albiet Grover-like) passion on the topic, I think most people will realize he's running on this issue because he really cares about it.

Of course I'm idealistic that way.
