Chinese clothing may be toxic
Lead has gotten a lot of press lately, especially with the recent recalls of a whole lotta Mattel toys. Lead, however, is not the only problem you may encounter with products made in China. A New Zealand investigative television show is set to reveal that scientists found 500 times the safe amount of formaldehyde in woolen and cotton clothing made in China.

Research supported by the World Health Organization has shown that as little as 20 parts per million of formaldehyde is enough to cause eye, skin and nasal irritations, respiratory problems, asthma and cancer. In Europe, formaldehyde residues in children's clothes are limited to a maximum of 30ppm. The chemical is used to give a permanent press effect to clothes; clothing should be washed before wearing.

For the record today I needed to get a gift for a relative who is expecting

We went to target... no item on sight that was not made in china for babies

After this article I found a site on line

http://www.buyamericanmart.com/forhome.html

So I am paying more, even Shipping and Handling, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

1. 90% of the goods at Target are made in China...
Newsflash--well over 50% of medical equipment (needles, tubing, sponges, vinyl gloves, bandages, bedpans, gowns, etc)... are made in China.

And if you're in the hospital, you DON'T get to comparison shop.

8. At the FDA website, I read about surgical gloves that were
rejected because they had tiny holes in them.

How many get through?

9. I wish I knew...
They're not all that cheap, believe it or not. A case of surgical gloves (roughly 1000 pairs) costs around 100.00 bucks.

3. Tinfoil time! What if these things are made toxic by design?
If so, would it be a Chinese official trying to maim and kill... or an American executive telling them what to do?

The Asian markets have been a bit volatile lately; surely they would crash if a large enough scenario were to develop.

But even I will admit that makes no sense. When it's about greed, nothing else matters. Then add Occam's Razor, which is when the simplest answer is bound to be THE answer, and voila. Tinfoil be damned.
