"Gold Futures" is about a Canadian Corporation buying up the oldest town in Romanian to build a Massive Gold mine!

Very interesting so far.

2. I couldn't see the Canadian company named in the info on the page of the link but...
Edited on Tue Aug-21-07 11:19 PM by Spazito
it seems it is Gabriel Resources. Here is some info from MiningWatch Canada:

http://www.miningwatch.ca/index.php?/Gabriel_Resources

Edited: I originally assumed it was Barrick Gold and commented accordingly but subsequently found it was Gabriel Resources so edited to add more info on them.

3. Wasn't Brian Mulroney on the board?
Oh, yes, here it is, from Barrick's site:

The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, P.C., LL.D.

Montreal, Quebec
Senior Partner, Ogilvy Renault
Mr. Mulroney was Prime Minister of Canada from 1984 to 1993. He has been a Director of Barrick since 1993 and is Chairman of Barrick’s International Advisory Board.

And check out the Wiki for Barrick. It doesn't look like the company has been editing this baby:

4. Yeah, it looks like I edited while you were posting, sorry about that!
It isn't Barrick but, damn, there should be a thread about Barrick, they are such a despicable company.

6. I think they called it "Rosia Montana Gold Corporation, S.A.
...but in California they call that a "Fictitious Business Name"

and in the Cayman Islands it's a Front Company (I think).

5. This project will never see the light of day. No repudable fund would touch it.

Too many liabilities. Ronania is prone to flooding and
heavy rainstorms which will make effluent control impossible

8. It was started 10 years ago, they already started demolishing the town...
...and Gold prices have doubled since they started in 1997... it'll go forward.

9. I write about mining companies free lance. It will take over $100 million

to build the mine. Unless Gold Corp has the cash
they will have to go to the Funds and equity markets
to raise it.

They can destroy the whole village but I predict this
project will never go into production.

It doesn't help that the PBS special is toxic publicity
in an industry that likes to keep their activities below
the public radar.

10. I hope you're right, because if it does...
...they are going to destroy a lot of unique human history, not to mention the tragic environmental potential of this endeavor.
