Commercial on ABC this morning: mother of dead vet claiming we'll have another 9/11 if we leave Iraq
I don't remember what group it was for, but it featured the (supposed) mother of a dead veteran of the Iraq conflict, basically claiming that if we "surrender" (and she actually used that word) in Iraq, we'll have another 9/11 here.

1. well, the psyche has to convolute reality in order for the being to go on.
She has to tell herself her son died for a good reason. Or else (more likely) it's a big fat load of horse hockey.

4. So we can't have another 9-11 if we stay there?
Hasn't terrorism been around since the beginning of time?

11. You are correct. And not only that, 9/11 didn't happen. I couldn't have.

Back then we weren't "fighting them over there," so logically, they "didn't attack us over here." Apparently, we all just remember the NYC and D.C. skylines incorrectly (must be part of that "pre-9/11 mindset").

5. Then she should do a commercial INSISTING ON BRINGING BACK THE DRAFT
Every fucking chickenshit chickenhawk scum of the earth would instantly turn into a peace loving, dope smoking hippie if there were any serious notion that they might have to put skin in THEIR FUCKING FAILURE.

The GOP is great at throwing together commercials. Let them do one which says WE ARE STAYING AND BUSH SUPPORTERS WILL SHED BLOOD FOR US.

6. This is sick--there's no other word for it. Playing our collective/national
bad memories of that terrible, divisive and pointless war to promote this one--unconscionable. And the threat of guilt (dead Iraqis!) and fear (Terra!)--even worse.

7. If bush hadn't stolen the presidency we might not have had the first one.
Isn't it odd how they can cull the bottom of the pack and come up with these supposed people.

8. While we're on the subject of commercials . . .
Does anyone find any and all army recruitment commercials somewhat offensive these days?
They all show these sunny images of soldiers travelling the world, helping local inhabitants of foreign countries and playing with expensive high-tech toys. Or, there are those dramatizations or faux testimonials of soldiers and their parents; the parents always lauding how the army taught their sons to become men, etc. etc.
It seems to me that a truly honest army recruitment commercial would say: "Join the Army. We will train and pay you to kill people." Not that I'm a pacifist or anti-military (I'm not), but last I checked, the primary purpose of the military is a killing force.

10. I'm so glad that I blocked ABC...
prior to that whole '9/11 docu-drama' thing they were pushing. Out of the hundreds of stations available, few are acceptable viewing according to my bullshit meter. The upside to this, is I somehow have developed more choices in how to spend my free time.
