Cornell Barnard's Report

It's the nightly interruption neighbors living on Daisy Avenue have come to expect.

"It can be all hours of the day and we hear him and his foul language," says neighbor Nicole Chauveau.

The interference is coming from a nearby Citizens' Band radio operator who likes using profane language when he broadcasts to his buddies.

The transmissions come through televisions, telephones and computer speakers.

"It's an invasion of privacy," says Jean Chauveau.

Neighbors say they've tried talking to the man whose home is topped by a large antenna, but he says he won't stop.

4. They tried.
I watched this on the local news last night. The couple contacted the FCC and when they were finally able to get through, they were told they had to file a complaint on-line. This couple doesn't have internet access. They are frustrated that it has been so difficult to get help from the FCC.

6. the only way to complain is on-line??? that's absurd
we had a feller in our neighborhood who was broadcasting above allowed wattage and they shut him down

this was pre internet....so if you don't own a computer you're a second-class citizen????

2. I used to have the same problem.
I could hear the chatter on the stereo speakers that were attached to my computer. Fortunately, the woman moved away eventually.

3. Foul language over the airwaves is a crime
If they really want to make an issue of it, the FCC is the place to complain.

I really, really hated those things in the mid 70s, when they were the latest craze. TV reception on Cape Cod, never good, was ruined by chatty neighbors. Worse, the side of the conversation that came through was as banal as the average cell phone conversation by cell phone clods.

Why the hell they spent money on that crap instead of using phone lines they already had was beyond me.

5. If you're picking up CB messages over your TV . . .
Edited on Wed Aug-22-07 02:05 PM by Petrushka
. . . it's because your neighbor's CB is broadcasting off-frequency. Make a complaint to the FCC via the U.S. Postal Service.

Edited to add:

When making complaints to any federal agency such as the FCC, it doesn't hurt to send carbon-copies to your U. S. Senators with a request that they help you to get an answer.
