Anyone here ever heard of a website called "orkut.com"???
According to Alexa (a website that tracks and ranks website traffic) it's the #8 site in the WORLD and is even ahead of Wikipedia (which is #9) and "Facebook" (ranked #10!)

Here's the Global 500 list: <http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sites?ts_mode=global&lang=none>

I'd never even heard of it and it's still only in Beta testing.

Orkut -- Social networking and discussion site operated by Google.
www.orkut.com

I just filled in my profile and I have to say, it seems like a difficult to use "MySpace" (#6, btw), but if you already have a Google account, you don't even have to make a new one.

Anyone else not know about this site?

How is this site (operated by Google) "flying under the radar?"

1. It's very popular outside the U.S.
Believe it or not, there are people on the Internet who are not Americans.

All being monitored by the NSA.

3. Humm, there's another big "social networking site" called Hi5 that ranked #11...

...which is only one spot behind Facebook, and the press release says it's based in San Francisco, California, but I think the only time I'd ever heard of it was when I looked at the Alexa list.

I don't get how these sites are this popular with almost no "buzz."

7. All I'm saying is, you got one of those gmail accounts, you got an account on this site.
You read your mail, you're signed in to this social networking outfit, too.

Don't shoot the messenger.

8. I dislike Google. I think they're very situational while trying to tout a claim of superiority.
Any outfit that will compromise consumer privacy to a government for profit isn't so "smart" to me.

YMMV, and probably does.
