Has Anyone Here ACTUALLY Taken Delivery of a Tesla Roadster Yet?
A year ago they were promising that those that had $100,000
to plunk down on these cars would have one by now.

So, does anyone really have one yet?

I just came from their website:

www.teslamotors.com

and one would think that they would have splashed across their front page
"here is the first new owner of a Tesla Roadster taking possession of their car"

But it just isn't there

at least, not yet

Is this real or a scam?

2008 Tesla Roadster Hits US Dealerships Review

Tesla Motors, a manufacturer of high-performance electric cars, has passed a significant milestone in passing the 500 mark in 2008 model year Roadster reservations. “We are currently planning to produce 800 of the first model year Roadsters, said Darryl Siry, VP of Sales, Marketing and Service at Tesla Motors, “The fact that more than 560 are already accounted for demonstrates the tremendous demand for the 2008 Tesla Roadster.”

Many Tesla Roadster customers already own hybrid gasoline cars, and have purchased the Roadster to get the best of styling, performance and efficiency, with the Roadster being twice as energy efficient as the Prius.

<snip>
We have also had a number of recent buyers tell us that they were in the market for a performance car like a Porsche 911 or BMW M6 when they learned of the Tesla Roadster. These customers are choosing the Roadster over traditional sports car platforms with an understanding that the power delivery and handling dynamics of the Tesla Roadster are second to none.”

Early customers have also pointed to the historical value of the first model year Roadster. “The first model year of any significant new platform tends to carry with it the thought that it may one day become a collectable. Certainly, with an all-new model from an all-new American car company and a revolutionary all-electric powertrain, there are a lot of customers interested in the 2008 Roadster as an instant classic with historical value.”

Tesla Motors to Open Auto Sales and Service Center in Menlo Park

The City of Menlo Park announced on July 31 that Tesla Motors has entered into an agreement to open a sales showroom and servicing operation at 300 El Camino Real in the City of Menlo Park. An arrangement has been finalized with the property owner, Stanford University, to lease this site to Tesla Motors, manufacturer of the Tesla Roadster electric car. The 2.6-acre property was formerly leased by Anderson Chevrolet, which closed its operation there in February 2006.

Tesla Motors, a manufacturer of beautiful, high-performance electric vehicles, chose Menlo Park after an extensive search for its Northern California sales and service center. “The location has great visibility with the types of people who are likely to consider buying a Tesla, and is also very well suited for our sales and service plans,” said Mike Harrigan, Vice President of Customer Service & Support for Tesla Motors. “It’s ideal for us,” he added.

Also, Tesla will take care of the lithium battery pack that lasts about 100,000 miles.

4. The first run was taken by celebs and investors, mostly Silicon Valley bigshots.
They'll be on the roads from CA to WA first, but it's going to take awhile longer before anyone in DC is driving such a status symbol.

6. Marketing Gold?
Maybe if the first buyer is a regular guy (well, as regular as you can get with a $100K car, anyway)...
Seems like the first buyer is more likely to be someone like Larry Ellison, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Gates, etc.
Is that marketing gold?

9. cute story about that
Alt-fuel advocate (and ex-CIA head) James Woolsey was taking a test drive in a Tesla Roadster. Tesla Motors' CEO Martin Eberhard was sitting shotgun. When the Corvette pulled up next to them, Martin just smiled and told Woolsey to "Take him." Then, the all-electric supercar "left the Corvette driver with one question when he caught up at the next light: 'What is that?"
