Do you have friends who like Bush?
I have one, known since we were kids, very close--nice guy, except that he is a rabid republican and will excuse anything Bush does. We just don't talk politics anymore. Like Jimmy Stewart and Hank Fonda that is a subject we stay away from to protect our friendship.

6. Long story short:
They were best friends and at one time even shared an apartment while waiting for their big break.

Fonda was as enthusiastic a democrat (New Deal one at that) as Stewart was a republican. They got into heated political arguments, one night escalating into a fist fight.

They were chagrined at their behavior and swore on the strength of their friendship that they would never discuss politics again.

5. Former friends...
We were friends right up to the time they said "I like Bush," then we became "former friends."

I'm sorry if this offends anyone's sensibilities, but I figure I have only a couple of decades left in this world and I just don't want to **** with these people anymore...

7. Yup
and I find that most of them don't actually like him, they just keep saying they do. When confronted with some of his policy decisions, they generally do NOT side with Bush. It's one of my favorite topics with them.

So, do you think the war in Iraq is going well? "Ummmmmm, no."

Do you think warrentless wire tapping is a good idea? "Ummmmm, no."

Do you think it's wrong for gay people to get married? "Not really."

Do you think think if we can save lives with stem cell research we should be doing it? "Sure."

So, none of your opinions on those questions match what Bush would do. Why do you like him again? "ummmmmmm....."

I suspect that many of them are from Republican families and have always voted Republican because it's always what they've done. That to not vote Republican would be to admit they've voted "wrong" a bunch of times...and no one likes to be wrong. Hell, even my dad, who has been a Republican voting conservative for 60 years has recently left the party and cut off the (considerable) amount of funding he used to give them.

When open minded people are confronted with the truth, or even when something is revealed to them in a new light, they're often willing to recognize the error of their ways.

8. Yes, or they don't like him because he isn't warlike enough
Believe it or not, such people exist!

They are people who cannot handle things in other than black and white certainties. This is what the neocon philosophy appeals to. The inability to deal with uncertainty.

10. Friends and family.
Our discussions are lively, but we don't let our political opinions on GWB disrupt our relationships for the worse.

12. I *Used* To Have Two Close Friends That Liked Bush...
They claimed that I had "Bushe Derangement Syndrome" - he was agreat leader, but I couldn't see it because of my irrational hatred of the Right.

We avoided the subject for a while.

The good news is that since both of these friends are "wikkid smaht" (as we say in these parts), they have come to hate Bush almost as much as I do. So now we can talk about Bush again.

13. Nope.
I don't think I could coexist peacefully by choice with a hardcore conservative - opposite values don't necessarily blend well.

17. To my knowledge, I don't *know* anyone who likes Bush
Even my friend's rabidly Tory, Thatcher-worshipping mother loathes Bush. Except for Blair, there's practically no one in the UK who does like him.

My younger brother did not speak to me for the better part of a year because I asked him what Bush had done that made his life better. Now we just do not discuss it. My son in law is also for Bush, but we kid each other or at least we pretend it is kidding. My whole neighborhood supports Bush also. I put my big ole yard signs up just to aggravate them.

23. Amazingly, no, despite the number of Repugs I know.
I have Republican friends, but not one likes Bush. Every single one hates either his spending or his immigration stance, and most hate both.

24. Yes, but we don't, by mutual agreement, talk about politics.
A couple of them helped my husband and I through a recent horrendous family crisis. They are beloved friends, forever. Politics is only one aspect of human behavior. I know, it seems like everything sometimes (up until the last 4 months I thought so), but believe me it's not.
