Statement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on Recall of Notebooks
Washington, DC - “Today’s recall of lead-contaminated journals and address books is just another sign that we need to strengthen the ability of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to be a strong voice for consumers. This recall – one in a line of recalls this summer – only serves as further evidence that our system is not working to protect our children against lead hazards. Parents and families need assurances that the products they buy for their children are safe. I once again call on President Bush to nominate a qualified, unbiased official to serve as Chair of the CPSC, and urge the CPSC to increase its vigilance and take additional steps to ensure the products marketed to children are free of lead hazards.”
