Nicole Richie Serves 82 Minutes in Jail
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Nicole Richie was released from jail Thursday after serving 82 minutes of a four-day sentence for driving under the influence of drugs.

The reality show star, who checked into a women's jail at 3:15 p.m., was released at 4:37 p.m. "based on her sentence and federal guidelines," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Maribel Rizo said without elaborating.

14. My thought exactly
Haven't the untalented overrich suffered enough? Let's get back to talking about something really important, like the death penalty for baggy pants.

3. What federal guideline calls for 82 minutes in jail?
Is that the one that says if you have been convicted of drunk driving 3 times and are a wealthy celebrity the punishment will be 82 minutes?

But hey, it provides a nice diversion for the talking heads to spend days discussing.

It probably is 82 days.

4. This is sadly normal for LA. System out there is horribly broken.

"Hey, we don't want to pay for police and jails like New York City does because we hate property tax out here, so we're doing away with jail sentences unless you beat someone to a pulp or have OMG CRACK on you. Coke is fine."

5. she`s famous for being famous
she`s in la
she 4 months pregnant
the sheriff wanted no part of the drama so they kicked her out.

actually i don`t blame the sheriff`s dept.because they have a lot more problems than putting up with famous celebrity brats. maybe la county should find another place for these nit wits to be incarcerated...

11. I say that people who are convicted of their 1st DWI have
their lawyers use this as a sentencing guideline in the future.

13. Still don't understand why people think celebrities should get more time...
The whole Paris Hilton thing was bizarre in that she served more time, much more, than an average offender of the same type. /shrug

16. If 82 minutes is the average time for doing what Nicole RIchie did,
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 10:44 AM by NYC Liberal
then it's too low for ANYONE. I don't care who it is.

Plus Paris was caught driving drunk, and then drove TWICE on a suspended license. Seems like she got 3 chances before she finally went to jail.

20. Then its too low for everyone...
She spent the same amount of time that an average offender does. That's what I was saying. And it's already been documented that Hilton spent more time than almost anyone convicted of the same offenses.

25. Yep, that's all I am saying.
The idea that anyone can do what she did and get off that easy is pretty scary.

17. What about Lohan?
you think she got a harsher sentence for posession of cocaine than the average minority person would get?

21. She was charged with misdemeanor possession, not felony...
Which means she had less than .5 gram. You can make the argument that crack offenders get harsher treatment than cocaine and its a racial issue, because then you'd be right. The point is there are literally thousands of people passing through the system on the exact same charges. It's a failed system, and locking them up doesnt solve anything. Most jails have a steady flow of drugs available anyways.

But back the race issue, it was amusing to me to see people saying Richie got lighter treatment because she's white. She's not, her father is black.
