Everyone, please remember and never forget...
The Democrats in Congress CONTROL THE AGENDA.

Republican filibusters cannot keep the Democratic leadership from defunding this war. The appropriation for the war runs out soon. (Yeah, I know, not soon enough..never should have written the blank check we said we weren't going to write.) Neither Reid nor Pelosi has to allow another funding bill to reach the floor of either the House or the Senate. BY DOING NOTHING, the war can be defunded.

No 60 vote thresholds to overcome. Nothing.

However, if Reid or Pelosi feel the need to send an appropriations bill up---either he or she can make damned sure that the only funds appropriated are linked to troop withdrawal. We do not have to worry about filibusters. So, let's not allow that argument---that we need 60 votes---to be used as an excuse by the Democratic leadership for not ending this war.

THE DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS CONTROL THE AGENDA. Always remember, and never forget. :)

2. And a small minority of Americans
support immediate defunding.

While the Democrats CAN do it, it would be political suicide.

3. Better than...

real homicide...which is going on now in Iraq. And, I disagree. The Democrats were attacked for defunding Vietnam, (albeit, Nixon and Kissinger had already decided the war was lost) and the country elected a Democratic President and Congress after the corrupt Nixon administration. Same thing could happen here.

By NOT ending this war, the Democrats are committing political suicide, IMO. I know one DINO Representative (mine--Jim Marshall), who won't get my vote.

7. well
the latest polls I've seen showed support for defunding at 8% and 18%.

Even taking the highest number, 82% of Americans disagree with you. It's not political suicide to side with the 18%.

5. And, did you read this paragraph?

10. Yes
but they don't want to just cut funding.

They want an orderly, planned, careful withdrawal.

6. I doubt they will...
But, I keep hearing around here that we don't have 60 votes in the Senate. We don't NEED 60 votes in the Senate. We need either PELOSI or REID on board. That's it.

Will they? I have my doubts, too. But, I'm not going to give them the "we need 60 votes" pass for not doing it.
