I have never felt weather like this in SoCal...
It is hellish outside and no relief in sight!
The last few nights the temperature has remained
in the high 90's!
What the hell is going on?
I've got the air on, and it simply doesn't make
much difference.
If this is the future, I think it is time to
move to another climate zone.

1. Makes you wonder about this "daylight savings" time BS
I can turn on every light in my house and the meter doesn't go half as fast as when the a/c is on.

4. I live on the Central Coast (near Pismo Beach) and it was
over a hundred here yesterday, very unusual for us. I was trying to water my drying plants but the weather kept drying the ground up as fast as I watered. It's cooler today. Ironic isn't it that when I was in Alaska a couple of weeks ago the weather was a perfect, sunny 70 all week. The natives said that it was unusual weather as it's usually much rainier and cooler.

7. Stop being such a wuss.
Don't you know that what's good for The State is good for you? The thought police are now on their way to your location. Stand in the middle of the room, hands on your head, and do not move.

And just remember, sweating while waiting for arrest is another thought crime, so you'd better crank up that ol' AC before you settle in.

8. Northern Minnesota
It got down to 40 here last night and is 79 today. And we haven't seen 100 degrees. BUT we have had a lot of 90 degree weather this summer and that is very very unusual for this part of the country.

10. And someone in North Dakota will claim in six months that the...
really cold day they just had is proof that Global Warming is bullshit because it has never been so cold. How would you respond to his argument?

I think Global Warming is a real problem but to claim that "hottest day ever" as proof is lame.

15. Yeah, far north sounds about right.
It's now 5:10 PM here and it actually feels hotter than
when I posted at 4:30...
This weather is scary.
Makes me feel really bad for the elderly and animals
with unconscious owners who don't provide them adequate
shelter and ice water.
I fill my pets bowls with ice every morning and by noon,
the ice has melted and the bowl is full of tepid water.
I just moved one of my dogs into the back room where there
is air conditioning. It's just too damned hot out for an old dog.
My cat actually let me wash him down with ice water just now.
Now that tells you how hot it is.
He refuses to come in the house, (turf issues) but was willIng to take a cold bath!
Heh.

with NO RAIN in sight! Unprecedented. I am fucking sick and tired of this shit. I really want to move to Canada though I noted this summer Toronto was pretty fucking hot too. I agree with you about the animals too, I have a dog I have been keeping inside because it is so uncomfortable. I always wonder about the homeless too. :(

13. You haven't been in the Valley long? It's hellish EVERY Labor Day.
Edited on Mon Sep-03-07 07:09 PM by kestrel91316
That said, this past week has been unusually bad. In Woodland Hills it's been 110 or more every day for a week. It's still about 109-something right now. 5 PM. The worst part is it's staying REALLY hot well into the evening. I have seen 95 at 10 PM twice this week. The AC at home and the office is getting a serious workout and I expect to have to take out a bank loan to pay the electric bills.......

105 and you're fussing, lol? What a weenie!

Edit to add: at least we haven't seen 119 yet this year..........better be glad for the small things.......

Not in Burbank anyway-
I know the western valley gets pretty brutal, but
I have not seen weather like this on the east end in
all the years I've lived here.

beat out Palm Springs temps with some regularity - this weekend we had 110 to their 107.

17. IT IS LIKE THIS EVERY YEAR....NOTHING UNUSUAL....
before you get hysterical and kill yourselves, the weather is hot like this every year at the end of August and beginning of September.
It is NOT unusual. It is common. September on average is the hottest month in SoCal.

The snow is still there. I saw it with my own two eyes this very afternoon.

I don't know exactly what that means to the GW debate, but there it is. I saw it.

every year for the past 7 yrs we've camped down at Pfieffer Big Sur State Park with three other families.

This was, by far, the hottest Labor Day w/e we'd EVER experienced down there.

SoCal heat wave strains power grid

Parts of Southern California sweltered in triple-digit temperatures Monday as a heat wave stretched into the seventh day and contributed to power outages that left thousands without air conditioning.

Temperatures soared in the San Fernando Valley with Woodland Hills reporting 102 degrees and Van Nuys at 99, according to the National Weather Service. Downtown Los Angeles also was expected to see temperatures climb above 100.

Southern California Edison said 20,000 customers in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside and San Bernardino counties had no electricity, spokesman Steve Conroy said.

San Diego Gas and Electric Co., which serves San Diego County and southern Orange County, declared a power emergency and began preparing for potential rolling blackouts as demand hit a record.

About 30,000 of its customers experienced outages Monday, but electricity was restored to 22,000 of them by the afternoon, spokesman Peter Hidalgo said.

24. I'm with you. I live in San Gabriel and have been asking friends
if they know anything about Alaska. I would say in the last 4 years, every year is hotter longer in Calif than the year before - this year has been unbearable. Do I believe in Global Warming?
HELL, YES.
