APEC rally ushers in Bush arrival
Lauren Wilson and AAP | September 04, 2007

This evening's rally came just hours before US President George W. Bush was to fly in to Sydney ahead of the weekend meeting of 21 world leaders.

Amid chants of "Go home Bush", Stop Bush Coalition spokesman Alex Bainbridge said a strong police presence and other deterrents would not dissuade protesters.

"The Bush regime, along with his sycophant coalition, have unleashed a hell upon the country of Iraq that only those who have been there can truly understand," Mr Howard told The Australian earlier today.

"We are done destroying the homes of innocent Iraqis, we are done abusing and torturing prisoners, we are done being hired thugs for the 160,000 contractors and US corporate interests in Iraq."

"There has been no reconstruction, no accountability and no progress. The reconstruction of Iraq is not on the (US) government's agenda."

"I stand here today on the eve of APEC to tell George Bush he is not welcome wherever he and his architects of death may travel," Mr Howard said.
