The President cries a lot, September 4, 2007 Reviewer: R. E Westgard "Viking"
The NY Times story about the new Bush bio, Dead Certain, ends with the President's question about himself, "Is the world better off as a result of your leadership?'" The answer must certainly be no.
The President also states to biographer Robert Draper, "Self pity is the worst thing that can happen to a presidency. This is a job where you can have a lot of self-pity."
Born to wealth, indifferent student, starts and fails with two small Texas oil companies, becomes President with little in the way of personal accomplishment, George Bush may be one of the luckiest men alive. If that justifies self-pity, the rest of us can certainly regret our own ordinary lives.
Currently into this excellent unbiased book. Will update shortly.

J. Persky: "indifferent student"? You obviously have no idea whatsoever of what an MBA from Harvard means. And a graduate from Yale can't be chopped liver.
Gosh: I think that this comment portrays the author's political bias and is not a review of the book.
R. E Westgard: My review, as stated, is of the NY Times review. Currently into the excellent book and will update review shortly.
As to Bush as a student, he must have been one of those legacy students with "gentleman's Cs". More power to him.
Edwin C. Pauzer: In reply to an earlier post You obviously have no idea how he got into these schools. Do you think his grandfather being a trustee at Yale had just a smidge to do with his application being approved?
And you think he got into Harvard on merit with a C- from Yale? Have you ever seen his transcript? All Mickey Mouse courses.
Get real, Persky!
Gary L. Veazey: You forgot about his two terms as the Governor of Texas. Most of you leftist liberals have no idea what it takes to be a great President. He certainly did not dishonor the office like his predecessor did!
Cujo Wilson: In reply to an earlier post So it's more honorable that he dragged us into a war based on lies than the fact that Clinton got a BJ in the oval office? I think the nearly 4000 dead soldiers families would disagree.
Edwin C. Pauzer: In reply to an earlier post His two terms as governor? Let's see, there's hardly a difference between a republican and a democrat in Texas. The legislature meets, what, once a year? The governor addresses them every two?
As governor, pollution went, pardon the pun, sky high, as did respiratory illnesses. EVERY single river in Texas is polluted. Houston's smog now makes LA look like "Clear Skies."
Education went down to be 49 and 50 among other states. And Mr. Bush, claimed that as governor, Texas had the most comprehensive health care plan of any other state in the union. The lyin' cretin didn't mention that he vetoed the bill twice, and that it was passed over his veto. He left it unsigned on his desk.
But, just to show that he had a heart, a woman was sentenced to death after she murdered her husband. Apparently, she suffered 18 years of domestic abuse at his hand. Pat Robertson and other religious leaders begged George, the sociopath, to give the woman a pardon or reprieve. NOPE! Ol' Georgy Boy had her fried.
So, Gary, you were telling me about Bozo Bush's illustrious gubernatorial record?
And...
Didn't dishonor the office of president either, did he?
Let's see:
Started an illegal war in Iraq.
Lied to the American people about WMD that never existed.
Lied about a relationship between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda that never existed.
Got nearly four thousand soldiers and marines killed because of a p** poor strategy from the start. Let's not forget the 27,000 severely wounded.
Borrows two billion dollars a day to continue the war. Communist China owns one third of that debt.
Spies on American citizens in defiance of the FISA Law, and announces that he intends to go on breaking the law even though he took an oath swearing to uphold all laws.
Arrests American citizens on US soil, and holds them without communication, without counsel, without trial, and states that his actions cannot be reviewed by any court, or that congress may pass no law restricting his course of actions.
I don't know about you, Gary, but that sounds a lot like a man who has ignored the US Constitution, and declared himself above the law, and worse, a king.
Tell me the honor in that!
Pearl Forrester: Hey Persky, have you ever heard any interviews by the professors who taught Bush in college? Apparently he never did homework, disrupted class with rude comments, and actually threw spitwads at classmates at age 22. I think we need to call it chopped liver.
