This will be a meeting of the full committee and the first chance for the Senate to comment on the GAO Report.
Kerry to Hold Hearing on Final GAO Iraq Report on Benchmarks
Hearing marks Walker’s first public testimony
Washington, D.C. — Senator John Kerry will chair a Foreign Relations Committee hearing today to assess whether the escalation of troops in Iraq is an effective policy toward building security in the region. A draft of most recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) Report, released last Thursday, signaled that the Iraqi government has failed to meet all but three of 18 congressionally mandated benchmarks for political and military progress. The final version of that report is set to be released today and will be discussed at the hearing.
The hearing will examine the ongoing situation in Iraq and the effectiveness of the President’s war policy.
