Gore likely to endorse before primaries
Gore likely to endorse before primaries
By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - Democrat Al Gore says he will probably endorse one of his party's 2008 presidential candidates. And it won't necessarily be Hillary Rodham Clinton, the wife of his former boss.

"Uh...no," the former vice president told 02138 magazine when asked if he feels "some obligation" to endorse the senator from New York.

"I have friendships with her and with other candidates, and they're all on equal footing at this point as far as I'm concerned," he said.

Gore said several candidates had called and visited him to seek advice. He declined to name them.

In the interview, Gore again declined to completely rule out a presidential run next year but said "it doesn't feel right at this point." He also said he doubted he would ever completely rule out a return to politics in the future.

24. God, I hope not.
But, then again, Gore picked Dean who didn't win, either.

6. Please Al, Rule It Out!
Al, in regards to "doubting you would ever completely rule out a return to politics in the future."

This is the time Al. Now is your chance. NOT in 8 years, when you may have to run against a Democratic VP Incumbent. NOT in 4 years, when you may have to run against a Democratic President Incumbent. NOT in 12 years, when you're in your 70's.

If politics are not your game, that's fine. Say so. But don't give me this BS that someday you might feel compelled to lead this country. LEAD NOW, or just continue doing what you're doing. Your "New Campaign."

But please, SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT!! The country NEEDS you NOW, and if you're not willing to Answer The Call, I'm not sure I will EVER want you to answer it, years from now in the future.

This is your time Al. If you want the support of all your backers, you will Run In 2008 for President.

18. Speak for yourself with your ultimatums
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 06:42 PM by RestoreGore
Not ALL of his supporters are arrogant enough to order him around giving him ultimatums. If he wants to really consider it down the road he can, but the obsession with it by some here is really getting shrill. And I believe he may consider it down the road if his three year plan to raise awareness of this crisis to cause the sea change necesary to tip the political scales is a success. But it is enlightening to see that some will turn on him should he follow his heart. Not surprising.

7. He's a cagey fellow, our Al
You can't tell me he hasn't made up his mind about running.

Granted, it's a savvy stance, and I'm glad he's dancing in both directions to keep them guessing. :)

8. I'm guessing that to get al's endorsement someone will really have to stand up
for the environment and I think that is a great thing!
(Edwards is my guess, but who knows.)

15. And against the abuses of the Consitution and The Bill of Rights
that we've witnessed under Dimson**, as that has been another area in which he felt compelled to make a forceful speech.

Please, just run, Al, please, please.

10. Bet he's goosing the candidates to get more teeth
in their environmental stances. Dodd has the best plan but he's got to know that Dodd has a snowball's chance at this point of making it past the first couple of primaries.

I am just not crazy about all the others. I don't think they got good chances of being elected for various reasons.

Since I don't have a strong second choice if he doesn't run, I may just follow his lead.

But if you're asking if I'll automatically back that person then, no.

17. You are exactly right.
There is so much momentum behind him NOW---at this point in time. If he doesn't do it now, I don't see where he'll ever have as good a chance again. Besides, we need him NOW. If he doesn't want to step up to the job now, when the world desperately needs a Gore presidency, I don't know that I'll have the same enthusiasm next time. That's about how I feel, anyway.

he has one or two elections left before he is too old. If a Republican god forbid wins in 08 he can definitely make a come back in 2012.
