Congress Has Returned, Will Democrats Cave on Iraq?
by Paul Hogarth‚ Sep. 05‚ 2007

Next week, General Petraeus will give Congress a report about the “surge” in Iraq – the escalation that Bush pushed in February, despite a clear message from voters to bring our troops home. We’ll hear about what “progress” has been made, and the White House will push Congress to fund the War in perpetuity.

Now we hear disturbing news from Congressional Democrats, including some who last spring led the fight to get us out. Senate Leader Harry Reid has signaled compromise with Republicans, and Dick Durbin told the Chicago Tribune that he’s inclined to approve the funding. If Democrats back down, they will be complicit in this quagmire, depress the party’s base and commit political suicide. -> http://www.beyondchron.org/news/index.php?itemid=4883#more

3. YEP.....it's going to go on forever. Regardless of what the
Congressmen and Senators learned from their consitutents during the recess they will vote for the funding. When will they learn that voting against the funding is not a position of weakness?

6. Will said money include a withdrawel timetable?
It seems like Democrats are inclined to push for one.

7. Of course they will
They are spineless wimps in the face of a 20 something percent president who has been wrong in every promise, prediction and claim he has made in the last five years concerning Iraq. I loathe this congress and I am beginning to loathe my party because of their unwillingness to do anything to stop this madness. They instead choose to timidly enable it.

8. HOW SOON, not WILL they cave.
that is the question.

The GOP are masters at spin, even when all facts are against them. they will spin this around and blame the dems for the problems. Scared of their own shadows, the Dems will cave faster than an badly operated Idaho mine.

10. Of course. And I'm never voting for an incumbent from this Congress again.
In the general, if it is between Durbin and a Republican, I'll abastain.

I was always someone who say, "No, voting third party or not at all will throw the election to the Republicans."

But now the Dems are capitulating. What's the point?

11. This is ironic - the only way they will not cave is if there are enough Republicans to support them
Explain that one to me ....
