South Korea Paid $24m For Hostages, Says Taliban

South Korea paid Afghanistan's Taliban more than $US20 million ($24.56m) to release 19 missionaries they were holding hostage, a senior insurgent leader said today, vowing to use the funds to buy arms and mount suicide attacks.

"We got more than $US20 million from them (the Seoul government), the commander said on condition of anonymity.

"With it we will purchase arms, get our communication network renewed and buy vehicles for carrying out more suicide attacks."

The commander is on the 10-man leadership council of the Islamist Taliban movement, which is led by the elusive Mullah Mohammad Omar.

1. That's a whole lot less than the US gave the Taliban...

when the American govt thought it would be a GOOD idea to arm & train these fanatics. Not that I think Seoul's move was a good one, it just pales in comparison to the gross stupidity of the Right wingnuts.
