Once upon a time there were journalists
Look and see what the media once was and has not been for some time now. Its lengthy (90 minutes) but people used to have attention spans.

1. For those scared to click on a link
It is a video from the 1980's called The Secret Government ... The Constitution in Crisis produced by Bill Moyers. Its an examination into the Iran Contra scandal and how the shadow government has been in operation since just after WWII.

3. I saw it - it is one of the reasons I believe so strongly in open government issues
and want real government corruption revealed FULLY.

There is no real democracy without truth, yet too many lawmakers, even many Democrats, are too willing to move quickly PAST the truth in order to protect secrecy and privilege for the few.

Thanks for resurrecting this piece, Az.

4. and adding another, because everything in this video relates to everything going on now.
Just think how far deep we would be into New World Order by now if a few brave souls in the newsmedia and the congress hadn't uncovered and stuck with IranContra, BCCI, and Iraqgate.

9. I left journalism in 1997
after working in the newspaper business for nearly 25 years.
It used to be infrequent for management to blatantly interfere with the work of reporters.

But in the 1990s, the neocons & Republicans decided there were too many liberals in the newspaper business, and started encouraging their own kids to dabble in reporting for a few years before heading off to make their millions elsewhere. We started seeing more and more of these young repugs, busily slanting stories and choosing not to cover anything that seemed progressive or liberal. The rethugs worked their way into editorial roles too. It was part of a national trend.

When an extreme neocon editor took over at my paper, he tried to force me to slant my stories to make any Democrat look bad. He forced out anyone who disagreed with him. I liked to think of myself as fairly objective over the years. I could only stand that horrible editor a couple of months, and quit newspapers for good. I was one of 13 staffers who left because of him.

At this point I can't see myself working in the traditional news media again, unless there are deep changes. I work as a marketing writer. I hate what the news media has become.
