Hmmm, gee looks like so-and-so's message was deemed to violated the board's rules -

so I ask

could you please apologize to me for that unbelievable amount of abuse and unfairness this morning?

Politics typically engenders a great deal of emotional passion. You poke someone in their political beliefs and you should expect a strong reaction. If you have not learned how to grow a tougher skin then perhaps you should not go poking around in political forums.

Certain people started threads about me - in violation of the board rules. And then, baiting me to argue with them (after a while it becomes necessary to stand up for yourself) and then twisting everything I was saying to make me look even worse. That's why Im looking for an apology - that's absurd!

Sounds to me like you got your head handed to you and now you are just trying to stir the pot. Frankly you are not garnering any sympathy here. In fact you are exhibiting a lot of signs of deliberately trying to instigate things.

Its a political forum. If you want an apology then you are going to have to work to show how you were misinterpreted and how you deserve an apology. Till then people are going to see you as an instigator and an agitator. You want trust then you have to show you deserve trust. Thats human nature.

Do you really think its possible to walk into such a crowded community and poke it collectively in the chest and not receive such a response? What community do you think would be as tolerant as you seem to be expecting this one to be to the challenge you placed before us? Forgive me for suggesting this but you are acting a bit naive.

In any community there are customs and behaviour that is expected. When you act in a way that strongly violates those codes you will gather the ire of the population. Most people understand this. There are neurological conditions that prevent people from picking up on these factors but those are rather rarified. What is more often the case is someone assails a community by poking at those practices as a means of mocking them and agitating them. It is most people's suspicion that you fall into this latter category.

Now I well understand that if this is not true you find yourself in a difficult position. Pride is on the line. The only way for you to get out of this situation is for you to humble yourself before the community and ask for forgiveness. This may seem backwards to you as you feel as though you are the one that has been wronged. But to the community it is you that have transgressed and are now seeming to poke even more at the community. In all likelihood what is going to happen is that are you are going to be tombstoned for behaviour unaccepted by the community.

The question is whether you really wish to partake in this community or if its just and adversarial bit of jousting for you. I can assure you that the community is very supportive once you establish yourself as someone that can be seen as part of it. But it is also very defensive and will repel any that it senses are agitators. Its your call.

There are rules that are writ down by the DU gods (Skinner, EarlG & Elad) so's we can play all nice an' civilized-like.

Then there are the rules that aren't writ down. They're established by the group, and they're different from one forum to the next. You can't read 'em, you can only learn 'em by observing. A newbie coming in and causing a ruckus with no reason or explanation is against the rules.

When you're learning these "other" rules you'll probably be hurt - you might even lose a finger or two - but you'll be a better DUer for it. So take that chip off your shoulder & put it away. You haven't earned the right challenge people to knock it off yet.

I understand - you're right and I agree. But all I've done is express some opinions and then someone started a thread about me! I find that to be incredibly rude and inhospitable.

This site is the target of many adversarial groups. They have initiated many attacks on us on a regular basis. Much of your posting seems to be in a similar vein to other such attacks. You have a low post count and have down nothing to earn anyone's trust. Yes, this community can be a bit insular. But that is because of the visciousness of those that oppose us. There are entire sited dedicated to undermining this place. So yeah. You set off a bunch of alarm bells in some minds. And you seem to be continuing the assault by trying to paint this group in a bad light. Don't expect hospitality when nothing but veiled insults are offered.

Your use of the word surrender and then your use of the perjorative DEMOCRATS UNDERGROUND might lead one to believe that you are either enjoying the attention you are getting by using obvious right wing verbage (i.e. negative attention is better than no attention at all)or that you truly believe the use of those words is acceptable here in which case you probably don't belong.

Democratic Underground is the site you are currently creating a stir on.

Democratic is a word to describe the party we, mostly, support and the namesake of the website.

Democrat party is a perjorative that right wingers came up with to demean said party.

If you are going to judge someone so harshly for something, it would probably be wiser to base it on something just a bit more important.

First, as you must already know, there are some posters here who do little more than argue like children and get all huffy when called out on it. This won't be the last time you're confronted by their incivility, be certain of that. Overall, though, you will find DU filled with wonderful people that even after having passionately heated arguments would still do anything for one another when called upon. I hope you know that. This truly is a decent community here, even if sometimes the loudmouths get the mic.

But please also understand that you did come in here with some alternative views that some may not be used to seeing, and therefore raised some alarms. I don't know you enough to judge you or so quickly determine if you are for real or a disruptor, but please understand we have many who come here solely to disrupt so it isn't something out of the realm of reason that you'd find yourself under the gun during this 'Hello, I'm Ryan_H' period. We've all had to go through it, and your alternative views on certain things may make your initiation a bit tougher than others LOL

But like I said, I have no judgments about you yet as you haven't been here long enough for me to, but I do respect your standing up for yourself against the bullies. But that only is something I'd respect if you're in fact for real, and not some freeper disruptor. I say that only because I've always felt that those who go on opposite political sites just to disrupt simply have too much time on their hands and need to get a life, and I find little to respect about wasting time in such ways. But I also think everyone here should always be given the benefit of the doubt and treated fairly, and I have no reason at this time to view you any differently.

But what I think would be good for people to see, and what I'd like for you to do, is start a thread introducing yourself, explain why you're a democrat, what direction you'd like to see our party go in, and what your hot button issues are and why. I think it would be good for you to get it out there so that we all can better see where you are coming from as a person, so that we'd have some actual substance to base our judgments on rather than having them based on knee jerk reactions that you've seen from some already.

I think it would be good for you to start a thread like that introducing yourself and letting us know what makes you tick, so to speak. I look forward to seeing it and welcome to DU!

Course, if the poster is a disruptor then that's a different story. Obviously he then would've deserved everything he received. But I'm not convinced that's the case. So you have to ask yourself: If he is one of us even if he has different opinions on certain things, wouldn't he absolutely be owed apologies by those who were so vicious towards him? Of course he would. All it comes down to is whether or not he's for real. If he is, then this thread is 100% called for in my opinion.

I'd give up at this point, but that's just me. I also wouldn't have demanded an apology, but that also is just me. Last time I was mad at somebody (actually, the *only* time on DU....), I posted a medium size explanation of why I was mad and then didn't look at that thread again. But, again, that's just me..... ;)

checked out some of your postings. The only thing I see you being guilty of is not having DU group-think. I think you come across as sincere, but you're not totally up on progressive issues as defined by DU, so some people think you're a troll. So far I haven't seen any evidence of that...Except for that defending bush thingy....Not cool. Especially on DU. We HATE his ass. So if you have any sympathy for THAT devil (I can smell the sulfar too), you won't get an apology and you won't last long on DU.

Just about everyone here has had their time of persecution for one view or another, it's a given. But to devote a thread to calling someone out and demanding an apology, well I just picture a bratty 2-year old demanding an apology from mommy for telling him not to spill milk all over the kitchen table when having the morning cereal.
