Texas Baptists Surprised Everyone!

Local religious group joining the coal-fired power plant debate

The group that shapes public policy for the Baptist General Convention of Texas has entered the coal-fired power plant debate.

The Christian Life Commission is urging its 2.3 million members to oppose Governor Perry’s plan to speed up the permit.

Coal fired power plants are the focus of the Christian Life Commission, the group is telling Baptists across the state to get involved in the fight against the 18 proposed power plants in the state of Texas.

But it is not ALL the Baptists...

And although the Baptist General Convention of Texas is urging members to take a stand, the national 16 million member Southern Baptist Convention is against environmental activism.

1. I smell another Abramoff scandal in the making

Would not be surprised to find out later, that the Baptist General Convention of Texas received some funding from the oil companies.

The General Convention is opposing the coal plants. The Southern Baptist Convention that is in favor of the plants is a separate group.
