Somehow they think their livlihood depends on repuke values - they could work for a contractor, especially in the security business, which must be making a big killing off the post 911 funk. They could work in one of those military towns.

check out the local gas pumps when the imports start arriving grimly, and I mean GRIMLY, to pay their political dues. People can turn it on for the cameras and the Fuhrer, especially since they are showing up for personal advantage in the first place. The real idiots get comforted buy the numbers and "enthusiasm" of the pros. It doesn't take much for anyone to let it loose in the mere exercise of fandom.

He can do anything, so long as he represents the power at the federal level to maintain the pressure on reproductive rights, civil unions, and provides cover for the delusion that the rest of the country can be bullied into their faux belief system and morals. He'll protect them from those homo-human-hybrid stem cell cloning things you see in the movies. Or, at least somebody told them it was in the movies; they don't get out much to see them themselves.

He's sort of like the Pope (an analogy that would drive WASPs nuts): sure he may has human failings, but he is the One, incarnate.

He's the only thing they have, and as the truth gets worse and worse, the cognitive dissonance - and the intensifying delusion - will get more and more extreme. Not extreme to go fight his war, no sir. Just extreme enough to foment hate for anybody who isn't a "true" believer.
