Does anyone else think Obama resembles Malcolm X..?
Edited on Sat Feb-10-07 12:46 PM by kentuck
in appearance? If he had Malcolm's glasses?

I wish I believed America was ready to support Obama's bid for the Presidency. However, I know the Republican Party too well. They will not debate the issues with Obama - they will attack his character, his name, his lack of experience, etc. They will rip him to shreds. He is too nice of a fellow to survive against these sharks, in my opinion.

With that said, I think he could be the candidate that could bring America together. He could bridge the racial divide in this country. He could restore, more than any other candidate, our respect around the world. Just the symbolism of his running is a major story around much of the world. I would love to see him run and win but I do not believe America is ready. I hope I am wrong.

edited to add a photo..

2. Gosh I hope not
Meaning I wouldn't want anything bad happen to him as it did to Malcolm X.

3. He looks almost exactly like my nephew
Who is 8 years old. :)

He could probably pull off a Malcolm X look if he put on the horn rimmed glasses, but the resemblance isn't all that striking otherwise IMO.

6. They both have oval faces but there are major differences
the lips are shaped differently. Obama's chin is longer, Malcolm's is squarer. they both have high cheek bones.

There may be a resemblence, but there is not enough to say they look alike. At least, that is my humble opinion.

7. Well... let's try a little p-shop action...
First of all, Malcolm X rarely smiled, based on the initial image search that I did, but I was able to find one.

I dunno, even if we threw a goatee on Barack, I really don't see that striking of a resemblance...

12. yeah, took all of five minutes...
Photoshop is indeed a very cool program...

But, I think this little exercise clearly shows that Obama looks nothing like Malcolm X, even with the glasses...

14. Speaking of photoshop
when I was looking for images, I came across an obvious right wing photoshop of obama in a turban and with a full beard. How long before that one pops up on the msm?

11. I think Malcom X looked like Denzel Washington.
Or maybe I should say Denzel looks like Malcom X?

----------

Anyhow, I do think that you raise an interesting question for me, Kentuck, and I know you are beyond reproach when you ask it.

Do you expect that there will be an attempt at some point to link Obama to a perceived "radical" figure? Malcom X is still viewed with a LOT of discomfort by some factions this country (Dr King still freaks out the bigots too, FWIW!) I can easily see an attempt to link Obama to other minority figures who have carried some negative associations.

I'll guarantee that at some point there will be a comparison to Carol Mosley Braun too--because she was ALSO from Illinois and you just KNOW all Illinois politics is corrupt. (My tongue firmly in cheek here because I LIVE in Illinois, if you don't already know that!)

I expect that Jesse Jackson will come up too, along with anybody else they can think of to scare the be-jeebus out of certain folks who MIGHT forget that Obama is a person who is not easily classified as caucasian. Shoot, they already tried to use Obama's MIDDLE NAME against him and he hadn't even announced yet!

We all need to be aware of the potential racism at work here, and the only way to deal with it is to confront it, I think.

Regards!

Laura

15. Yes.
All blacks look alike.

:sarcasm:

But they do favor slightly. Only because of their thinness and bone structure. You want to hear something really weird? I think GWBush and David Corn look alike.(and I hope Corn isn't reading this, I like Corn's work)
