City Hosts Forum To Discuss Criminalization Of Khat

COLUMBUS, Ohio – One of Columbus' largest immigrant communities has invited city leaders and lawmakers to discuss a cultural past-time that may be criminalized.

The city was scheduled to host a forum to debate the criminalization of khat Friday at 6 p.m. at 221 Morse Road, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Khat, nicknamed Bushman's Tea, is a leafy plant that, when chewed, can reportedly produce a sense of euphoria.

Khat is common in East Africa and has become more common in Central Ohio, the home of approximately 50,000 Somali immigrants, Tate reported.

4. Oh jeez. I've done Khat. It's completely harmless.
maybe coffee should be next? that give me a 'sense of euphoria'. Can't have people feeling that.

They're sort of lazy but I wouldn't call them criminals.
