Wow, guess I have spent the last 5 yrs against the war for nothing
I have sat here and listened to the Petreaus hearing today on C-span, without the msm commentaries and without checking DU for others comments (well maybe once) and feel like I'm a kid again in my alcholic disfunctional family. Denial, denial, denial, no problem here, why your dad is fine even though he slept passed out on the hallway floor all night.

Why, Petraeus is so sincere, there are so many who say his motives are pure, and his assessment is practically from God. But, why do I feel so abused?????? And look at them attacking Move-on.org, for even considering to question Petreaus's motives; its vicious and will continue for days, as a desperate distraction from the real issue.

My worst fears have been realized, and shrub will use this report with support from congress to continue this war unheeded. How can you fight this? We can't, and haven't been able to for 5 years. The resignations which I thought was some kind of victory, was just a way to make people let down their guard, and give hope that compromise and clear thinking would prevail in other issues. Stall, stall, stall, cloud the issue, and keep doing what we want, is shrub's stategy and will never change.

1. Yep. It's funny, as I was listening I began to feel optimistic.
Then I thought: Wait a damn minute... Lisa, are you an IDIOT?!! I once believed Colin Powell, too. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... well, you know. Heh.

4. You are watching a charade. Something could be done to stop this insanity.
We could and must impeach the unRoyal basTard. Cut to the chase and rid ourselves of the cancers in the executive branch.

5. And the most that can happen is when Hillary ends the war and continues to
carry the torch for the powers that be - that run this country, run this world.

7. I turned it off as soon as Ike Skelton opened with the usual nauseating
list of praise in his opening remarks. He started to mention a few concerns, but by that time I was already turned off. It was like listening to a buddy getting ready to chat with a couple of his fellow club members.

10. What's that giant sucking sound?
Skipping over the first three years of the bush debacle, brings us to Dec. 2006 when everyone agreed that the war was a failure. At that time we were at least talking about the policy. Now what is this hearing about? Is the f'king surge working? Well...color me unimpressed.

160,000 troops can control something...however, that changes nothing of any lasting importance. The policy has failed. But we're not talking about the policy now are we? The republicans are setting the terms of the debate. Can more troops kill more people? Well...yes. Well, there ya go...bush is great.

But what will it take to end the war? We're not talking about that.

This whole tawdry display is just part of the game of CYA for the war voters...on both sides of the aisle.

14. I'm working on my politics of posting
and thus, try to skirt the real issue. But if you insist....

Nevertheless, if the Democrats continue to talk about the exact subject the republicans talk about, the surge, then they will find themselves stuck with the subject of the troops. That is not where they win the argument.

12. I've given up
This war and other wars of conquest are apparently not a problem in most peoples' minds...even here.

"Just a little more...a little more time...and still more time...and still more time..."

People are dying with that time we are granting these people. People are dying with the sanction we give the Shrub by allowing him to do this, giving him the illusion that his actions were legal by not challenging them.

Oh, well. Another "superpower" that destroys other nations for its profit, with citizens that don't care. I thought we might be different.

and coming to a convention near you, Clinton, Obama, you know the usual suspects.

17. They did
But this would not be happening without tacit support by the citizens of this country. A sickening revelation for me- that many people truly support this madness.

18. My coworker and I talked today. She said "How can people believe this stuff?"
We talked about wounded soldiers with lost limbs, those Iraqi families who defend themselves and are then called terrorists, education's fail, stolen elections...

I was playing scrabble online Friday night with somebody from NYC named Liberal2006. When I told her I was a liberal too, she took the timer off the game and we played and chatted until 1:30 AM EST about all that is going on. Her main fear was that we will attack Iran.

I am saying all this to say that even though our voices are muted by the media, there are many who think the same way we do.

There is hope at least in knowing that people are not fooled by the charade.

19. and we'll all meet up in a camp in
western Nebraska one fine day. There we'll be able to relish each other with stories of all the bad things we watched happen and how others couldn't see the same things. Meanwhile, the others will be sitting around watching tv and eating, we'll be living a remake of stalag 17.
