never even notice. Last week, a friend and I were discussing the news media. I commented how, when I was young, we were concerned when we found that US intelligence agencies usually had at least one person employed in each major media outlet (as well as on every college campus). Today, every television major cable network has several "military advisors" that help Americans define the world around us daily.
My friend said that he found many of them interesting, and that he enjoyed listening to those on MSNBC in particular. I said that my point was not if they were nice individuals, but rather, the dangers posed by such obvious conflicts of interest. Who owns MSNBC? Where are their major contracts? How many "peace experts" does MSNBC have for advisors?
The militarization of our society has allowed the oil/defense industries to get us into the war of occupation in Iraq, and our congress does not dare challenge them. We are fed lies by the media -- the democrats don't have the votes -- which require an utter ignorance of the Constitutional powers of Congress to swallow. And we hear fools say that the public would not support such an action on the part of Congress until there is a larger majority of democrats in Congress, which begs the question: how will you get this larger majority, unless people actually do oppose this war?
