Ike Skelton was an embarrassment to the Democratic Party today
Just my personal opinion, but I thought Skelton came off as a doddering, spineless relic today.

Posturing for the cameras and displaying overt contempt for peaceful protesters. Refusing to swear-in Petraeus. Lobbing praise and softball questions. Asking nothing unseemly or cutting.

Skelton exemplified what we are up against from our very own Democratic "leadership" today. He seems to have absolutely zero idea of the real human consequences of what he does for a living.

Dead wood. That's it.

19. If Our Democratic leaders won't stop the war, and the Sept. 15 protest won't stop the war
THEN

Call GE at 203 373 2211 and tell the person in Public relations that you will no longer buy any GE products until the GE CEO gets George W Bush to end the war in Iraq and then resigns with Cheney.

No justice, no commerce!!!

2. Have to agree
And when you consider his powerful position on the House Arms Committee, he should be holding congressional investigations and hearings on the gross negligence of Pentagon spending and no bid contracts. Not a peep out of the man. He is grossly inept and too incompetent to hold such a powerful position in congress.

25. Why did Pelosi put him in charge?
Can't the house leadership do better than let congressmen compromised by defense contract money handle leadership of this committee?

You'll have difficulty finding any time when he supported the Dem party's agenda, though that may be why you like him.

14. vicious partisan bloodletting
would be a far cry better than the vicious non-partisan bloodletting happening in Iraq in my name and on my dime.

But at least he maintained decorum for you Doggie. That's what's most important in this world of ours, after all.

21. His job was to head up the hearing, and keep order. Plenty of others had opportunity
to play more of a henchman role. You might not like my opinion, and yet you're entitled to it.

24. Plenty of committee chairmen
have ripped witnesses new ones on many occasions in the past.

And "keep order?" With all respect, I think his job was and is to get to the truth. The Sergeant at Arms job is to keep order.

But really, he seemed to think that his job was neither “order” nor "truth" but putting on a nice conservative dog and pony show for the boys back at Rotary. You know, the ones with the caaaaash?

He part of the problem - buddy buddy with the defense contractors and lobbyists. Trading favors for weapon systems. Bringing home pork to his district. Kinda like Murtha.

5. Skelton has always been a Dino
Edited on Mon Sep-10-07 10:30 PM by OzarkDem
I can't recall a time when he supported any Dem agenda. Ever.

Don't ever expect him to take sides with Dems on any issue.

He's been bought and paid for by defense contractors, big Agribusiness and energy company PACs.

http://www.opensecrets.org/pacs/memberprofile.asp?cid=N00005105&cycle=2006&expand=E

The fact that Dems let him become chair of this committee is a travesty and another great example of poor Dem leadership.

28. Yes...I was watching MSNBC when Skelton's mike was off and to see Duncan Hunter
and Dan Burton hustling over to help Skelton with his remarks about Code Pink and read him the riot act about "prosecuting" after they were thrown out was revolting. CNN didn't show the footage with the microphones on...but MSNBC did and that ass Brian Williams was thrilled with the whole thing going on to mention how some Dems in Congress were angry with Move On ad and there would be some "followup" from the Dems about it.

I turned it off after that...didn't have stomach to watch more of Skelton and the "Dog & Pony" show.

For that matter, they deserve more than what was offered by Representative Ike Skelton, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. When protesters interrupted the hearing, Mr. Skelton ordered them removed from the room, which is understandable. But then he said that they would be prosecuted. That seemed like an unnecessarily authoritarian response to people who just wanted to be heard.
