The Cat killers from Halliburton :grr:
Just when you think Halliburton would only go after $$$...

I just finished Imperial Life in the Emerald City, in it the author, between major chapters has a one or two page mini-chapter on life in the Green Zone. One of the min-chapter has to do with the great cat kill off. It seems the Halliburton management found out the were cats in the Green Zone. And cats spread disease. So first Halliburton told the Marines to kill all cats. Well the Marines didn't so Halliburton ordered their Filipino contractors to kill the cats. But because most of the cats were sombody's pet, the owners started hiding their cats in their trailers. But Halliburton caught on to this and ordered their people to go through the trailers during normal working hours and kill any cats they found.

The chapter ends with a lady crying, she was to go back to the US, and had taken her cat into the Vets for all it's shots so that she could take it home, only to return to her trailer to find a note from the Halliburton cat killers...

2. That's disgusting.
A tip of the hat to those Marines. God bless 'em.

To Halliburton: a quote from Mr. Malloy: "Have I ever told you how much I hate these people?"

16. seconded -- the book is just amazing

Even more surreal than the original M*A*S*H movie, in my opinion.

By the way -- while I understand the concerns about dogs and cats being disease vectors (as an earlier poster noted), from what the book suggests, Halliburton was making enough profit out of the Iraq debacle to set up a secure quarantine facility with veterinary services for any employees or servicepeople who wanted to take their pets home. I used to work in a vet clinic myself, with techs who had rescued pets under some pretty extreme circumstances, and also know several people who brought home animals from remote northern villages and even Thailand ... it's not impossible, especially with that kind of big money floating around.

4. They're going to need a Pided Piper of Baghdad
if they keep that crap up! You can't blow up everything, leave rotting body parts all over the country and NOT expect to get a rodent issue, can you? Oh wait, Halliburton is already there ... they already HAVE a rodent issue. d'oh!

6. Didn't killing cats help spread the black death?
Since with no cats, the rats had free reign.

Sheesh, Haliburton isnt' just cruel, they are abysmally stupid as well.

8. Pope Gregory IX, the one who started the Inquisition, burned
the cats alive, along with women thought to be witches. Then the rats with the fleas carrying the plague over-ran everything. 20,000,000 people died. Doesn't anyone learn anything ever?

11. I'm going to get roasted alive for this.....
Cats and dogs in the middle east are the prime vectors for many diseases. I have taken part in a dog culling at FOB Junction City in Ramadi, Iraq in 2004. I have 4 dogs and a cat myself and consider myself an avid dog lover. However I also understand how these poor animals spread diseases and we cannot have disease carrying animals near our water, food or people. Therefore when the Brigade commander ordered all dogs and cats on the FOB shot, I participated with a very heavy heart. Flame away if you must, but my duty is to my guys and their health and safety first and foremost. We did it quick and we did it clean and no one in my platoon tortured these animals.....It was depressing but neccessary....

so i'm gonna zip up my flame suit now I have a feeling I will need it.....

sometimes I hate being so honest about stuff.

My reality is quite happy. I am secure in the knowledge that no matter who our leaders are, I am following legal orders.....Do some research on my posts before we continue this further.

21. Well, there is a vaccine for rabies, as we all know.
If that's the problem, then, how about someone supplying rabies vaccine for pets? And, any humans who feel the need. No...I suppose a bullet is cheaper than a rabies shot, in Halliburton's opinion.

I would like a link, otherwise this is all hearsay and worthless gossip.

not everything has a "link." Some things are still only in books, on paper, and not online.

Sorry, I wouldn't normally pick on anyone serving in the armed forces, but that's beyond outrageous!!!

20. Rrr...someone needs to die for this.
Point of fact, everyone responsible for this. Slowly and painfully. This is my hardwired kneejerk reaction, but here, I think it's an acceptable one.

I can see sanskrit's point about disease being a problem with ferals, but a: it looks like Halliburton didn't bother to check whether anyone had gotten their animals vaccinated, and b: there are ways to trap, vaccinate, and relocate feral animals without having to kill them.

May I suggest all Haliburton Executive Officers, all Haliburton employees (hey Nuremburg didn't excuse willing soldiers), Bu$h (and his POOPY), Cheney, Rummy, Bremer the 'Vicroy' (King Bu$hie's appointee), etc. and to quote the King of Siam would say to Anna: etc., etc., etc.

25. or they could have supplied jobs to iraqis vaccinating, quarantining, etc...
instead of just killing the animals and outsourcing it to poor filipinos who end up being the grunt work slaves of the middle east. but that might cut into Halliburton's $, and there's no more egregious sin than that...

28. This nearly made me throw up.
It's not enough that we bombed the shit out of their homes, tortured their sons and raped their daughters. Now we're killing their cats?! May the vengeance of Bast be upon these murderers.

Jesus christ I can't wait for this bullshit to be over. When will this cruelty stop?
