Biggest war and death budget in the WORLD
Edited on Sun Feb-11-07 12:25 AM by BayCityProgressive
Does everyone here realize that we HAVE DOUBLED our Pentagon spending in the last 15 years!?!?! The Pentagon cannot even account for billions we have given them and we give them MORE. We spend more dollars on our military than the rest of the world COMBINED. We have built a death machine capable of destroying the world. This is not for the defense of the US...the only reason you would need a military this strong is to force your influence down the throat of the world. Yet, we fiddle away with the two corporate parties all too happy to vote for "our troops" every time the budget comes up.

3. This country has gone bug-fuck nuts.
I meet people in the streets whom I know are military contractors of one type or another, who say angry obscene things to me and my anti-war sign holding friends, because they want to pay the mortgages on their McMansions with money from death and destruction for the latest cause cooked up by K Street.

4. well said, we have created a culture of death and destruction
instead of a culture rooted in life and sane living.

I can't understand how the USA could have sunk into such depths of depravity, but it's there, it's here and now.

If there is someway to try to escape from this madness, I would like to participate in it, that would be a construction of a new and different society here. One based on peace, equality and rationality.

5. That's what I say! We've got to start working on personal solutions.
That means real fundamental changes in how we live. The most consistent element in any discussions that get even close to this question is the word local. Whatever is possible in "construction of a new and different society" might be found in one's local community of like-minded people who produce anything, and especially anything needed to sustain life. I know someone who owns a business in Portland, Or., and I'm thinking here about some of the stuff that the counter-culture is doing up there, includes things like "co-housing" and such.
