Consumers Could face higher toy prices
Just spotted this on Yahoo News. Links the safety problem directly to the WalMartization of our Country.

2. Oh noooooooooooo! What will we do now??
If I cannot drown my kid in cheap toys anymore, how am I going to drown my conscience?
How can I mitigate not having time for him because I have to try and earn the same as my parents did, together with my working wife?
What do you suggest now, that I PLAY with him or WHAT?
What's next, we all go and sit on our front porch and talk to the neighbours?
Jeezes are we ever going in the wrong direction!!

Must. Have. Cheap. Plastic..Toys!!
aaargh

3. In other words
If you were wondering how Mattel/Fisher Price was going to make up their profit margin on all their lead infested toys...here is your answer.

4. I'm sure most consumers will gladly pay more for their cheap
plastic kid's toys if they could get a guarantee the toys had no toxic chemicals or poisons. Seems a few years ago we did just that.

5. You mean this year when parents give their kids the usual $500 worth of toys,
the kids won't get as much loot?

6. The company made the mistake. Not the consumers.
Why should the consumers have to make up the difference? The company chose the risk of higher profits by offshoring the work to another company with no regulations or means of quality control.

As the big billboard on the freeway said, business owners should provide quality work and not have the customer pay for the mistakes. Of course, that billboard was aimed and SMBs. Not large ones, it seems.

7. Won't matter...
Soon we won't be buying many toys. Look at wheat futures and other grain markets. Bought any beef lately? Milk is nearly $5/gal now too. Even the cheapest bread is $1 a loaf now.

8. Want safe toys? It's gonna cost you..
and there is NO guarantee of safety..

That toy made in Germany, MAY have been made from parts that came from China..

It's high time that the USA got over the "cheap virus" we all are suffering from..

People who worked at Mattel and other toy companies here, apparently made too much money, so the companies went in search of slave labor across the ocean. the toys do not cost LESS though, do they?

It;s all about the labor cost to the corporation.. it's NOT about the cost of the toys..

I predict that there will come a time when corporations might actually start production here again, but once they do, they will undoubtedly double the cost of the toys, thus ensuring their profits..and the lucky workers who get hired back on will probably end up taking less than before, but will be thankful to be employed :grr:
