If there ever was a time.. we need a special prosecutor

During the 90's there were investigations that the president may have been involved in a shady land deal. The deal involved a development called White Water and the US government appointed a special prosecutor with a $70 million dollar budget to investigate it.

And since the last Republican congress was the laziest in generations, breaking the record of the famous 'do nothing' Republican congress of 1948.. there is a lot of work for the new Democratic congress to do.. not to mention that the last Republican congress could not even pass the annual budget.

In addition to doing last years unfinished work, and at the same time attending to keeping this years affairs in order.. there have come to light a lot of scandals and improprieties by the current administration.

We have seen multiple resignations at the department of justice. Many resignations of top White House aids under investigation, defiant denials of legal subpoenas.. even the resignation of top administration cabinet members.

Add to that multiple criminal convictions of members of congress, lobbyist and other Republican 'insiders'. There are also many more criminal investigations of congressmen and senators.

There are also other major national problems that need to be investigated and resolved.. the response to the Katrina disaster, no bid contract waste in Iraq, the Walter Reed wounded veterans scandal, and much much more.

There is too much on the table for any congress to handle this load...

There needs to be a special prosecutor appointed.

Actually, compared to the one 1990's land deal.. there needs to be about 4 or 5 special prosecutors appointed.

Each with an equal $70 dollar budget.

Every American who is in favor of Democracy and the rule of law should be in favor of this.

1. No, that was an independent counsel. Big, big difference.
I'm sorry, I don't see Senator Clinton pushing to have the independent counsel law revived so that it may continue during her hoped-for presidency.

2. I think that the congress is waiting for the
IG's report from the Department of Justice. I think that there is movement in that area. At least that is my hope.

Well, if they could just handle something at least. So far their progress has been, dare I say, less than impressive. Maybe for easy starters they could work on contempt charges for those recently unanswered subpoenas such as this and this and this. That would be nice.

a one legged man at a butt kicking contest these days!!

I have no idea if a special prosecutor is called for but

I think Wetzell has a team of investigators on the job at full tilt.

The whole BushCo crime Admin. is under investigation right now.

Why do you think they are refusing to honor subpoena's?
