1. Interesting way to put the situation into perspective.
Grasping what is meant when they say "~X million this" and "~Y million that" is sometimes difficult.

Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 08:53 AM by Nimrod2005
About 10%? Don't you think?

That may take up most of CA, TX, and FL?

5. Very insightful, but can you add references?
Nice. This is a powerful way to convey what we've done over there...and it's in a good format (map) that even red stater's can understand!

I'd like to see some references to the numbers to make this more legit.

Heck, you might consider putting this on a shirt at cafepress!

8. Thanks!
The data is easy enough to Google: Iraq population 27M, 1M killed, 4M refugees.

The proportionate comparison can be stunning sometimes. The attack on Fallujah (population 350,000) would be the equivalent of firebombing a city of 4 million people in the U.S. Basically, Los Angeles.

I'm not a genius at graphics though, so anyone who wants to take this concept and run with it is entirely welcome!

6. Excellent Graphic!
The comments requesting sources and including wounded would complete the visual. T-shirts, billboards, signs and flyer's would all be effective.
Thanks!

That's the moral equivalent of what most Americans think about this war: It hasn't touched me, so why should I care?

18. One could pretty easily estimate 2-3 million permanently maimed and disfigured.
Edited on Sat Sep-15-07 03:04 PM by TahitiNut
In the military, casualty ratios of injured to killed would be higher due to the medical support. The civilian population doesn't receive the same level of care - medics, medevac, etc. - so the mortality rates would be higher and the ratio lower.

it's a small price to pay. Wonder if the price would seem just as small to the Boner,
if the US was on the receiving end.

42. TX has 7.4% of (2000) U.S. population, so can't use it to represent Iraqis killed
However, it should be easy enough to include Texas in the states representing Iraqi refugees.

Edited on Sun Sep-16-07 02:43 AM by piesRsquare
It says that the majority of votes in the US Senate represent less than 20% of the US population.

You know what that means. It means that the majority of Americans could be held hostage by policies favored by a tiny minority. As we are currently experiencing.

Equal representation, my butt!

40. Thom Hartmann did a similar contrast on his show Friday...
... when he postulated what it would be like if the cities of San Francisco and Detroit were living like occupied cities in Iraq have been living up to this point, even through the surge, and really brought the reality of what Bushco is doing to destroy civilized life over there with their deluded visions of a neocon capitalist state being thrown on the Iraqis now.
