U.S. sending third carrier strike group to Gulf.
At least one former White House official contends that some Bush advisers secretly want an excuse to attack Iran. “They intend to be as provocative as possible and make the Iranians do something would be forced to retaliate for,” says Hillary Mann, the administration’s former National Security Council director for Iran and Persian Gulf Affairs. …

A second Navy carrier group is steaming toward the Persian Gulf, and NEWSWEEK has learned that a third carrier will likely follow. Iran shot off a few missiles in those same tense waters last week, in a highly publicized test. With Americans and Iranians jousting on the chaotic battleground of Iraq, the chances of a small incident’s spiraling into a crisis are higher than they’ve been in years.

3. agreed, even though I don't believe in god, and couldn't
care less if he/she/it believed in me.

One bomb in Iran, and watch that part of the globe erupt, then take the rest of the world with it.

4. Have we all become spectators now?
It seems like that all we can do is sit back and watch events unfold, like them or not.

Does anyone honestly believe that we can stop "our" leaders from going to war with Iran? Anyone?

5. I thought that this was old news.
I thought that two were already there having left in December/January and that the third would be there sometime in the next week.
I have heard possible invasion dates as early as Feb 22nd - 24th.

7. Iran announced this last week that the ships were in their missile range...
When ships and troops get close to each other, 'accidents' do happen.

What will it be, and how will the US react?

I think it is a little like the submarine collisions that have happened in the past. Too many ships in too small a space equals a 'collision'.

We know this, and as an additional thought --Israel would be very interested in having US firepower nearby if they were going to take preemptive action against Iran. Voila!

Careful, this is still a rumor (although probably true).

11. My guess would be the USS Ronald Reagan .....
which just today entered the 7th fleet (Pacific Command) link here .... http://www.news.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=27732

and here's a map where the Pacific Commands area is located

Notice just off the coast of India (Northern Indian Ocean) is not too far away from surge distance to the Persian Gulf. Peace. K&R.
