TO: DU bigot-defense brigade. SUBJ: Your mascot needs you!!!
BODY:

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/02/11/kristol-says-obama-would-be-a-pro-slavery-kinda-guy/

"KRISTOL: We’re electing a war president in 2008. If I can go back to Obama and Lincoln for just one second, Lincoln’s “house divided” speech in 1858 was a speech saying we cannot live as a house divided on slavery. And he implicitly says we’ll have to fight a civil war if necessary on this.

Obama’s speech is a “can’t we get along” speech — sort of the opposite of Lincoln. He would have been with Stephen Douglas in 1858. Let’s paper over these differences, rise above politics and all get along. That’s not Giuliani’s mode. And I think in a war context, social conservatives want to win the war against Islamic jihadism. (h/t TP for the transcript)"

It looks bad, bigot-defense brigade! Bill Kristol needs your help! Characterizing a black American man as pro-slavery is bound to lead to all sorts of melodramatic overhyping of an already-oversensitve negroid population.

It's up to you to stem the tidal wave bigot-defenders! Only you can come up with an explanation of why calling black Americans pro-slavery ISN'T racist.

It should go without saying that you (all) have my complete faith - your abilities in this area are the stuff of legend.

sarcastic reply to a questioning post about a sarcastic post. I agree, it wasn't needed in OP.

Could you give an example of the "DU bigot brigade" or are you just making stuff up?
DU now has a "bigot brigade" and is full of idiots, huh?
I think someone needs a hug. Bad day?

15. DU has been a flamey place recently.
Lots of posts accusing and insulting about color, sexual orientation, sex, etc etc etc. Worse than the shopping cart wars. Who can define whether something is insulting, those in or having the characteristic being insulted or those not? Who accepts others feeling insulted? Free speech or not? Laugh at me or with me? It's been something recently. Many Duers need hugs.

27. Indeed. Some races are inherently superior in defining racism.
Edited on Sun Feb-11-07 03:40 PM by TahitiNut
It's obvious. Just like one gender is inherently superior to the other in defining sexism.

pretend how crafty you are? Please point me to a thread where the brigade defends Kristol....there should be multiple DUer's defending Kristol as a one or two oddball posters don't make a brigade.

17. lol dont know which is funnier
in a sorta sad form of funny... the post (per the series of threads defending the right to insult/offend/and feel oppressed by those who call out on the insults) - or the lack of recognition in the responses to the gist of the OP.

Hey BlooInBloo - I 'hear' ya - and get it - and would bet that if this were a democrat who had made Kristol's ridiculous comment -that the very type of thread you are suggesting would already have been offered up in the forum. while the majority might express outrage - there would be some vocal pitbulls defending the speaker with some contorted explanation of why it wasn't really a racist comment.

21. further more
I would also venture to bet that some who would jump in to defend, would have elsewhere been on the "I'm offended" side on a different thread/topic. I have been a little jarred (though sadly not suprised) to see someone somewhere go off on the right to be unPC on topic a and then go off on others for being offensive on topic b. As if it only matters on their area of offense.

Or am I the only one to notice that little trend.

30. I saw it there...
and agreed most glaringly - but some other places as well. Sometimes more subtle - like -- let's forget the offensive thing and go off on a dismissive side tangent like... is satire necessarily funny?

Odd place this place.

By the way - wish I had your way with blunt irony - good op!

28. No, you are not the only one. I've noticed it a lot lately, particularly
in the Articulate/Snickers dust-ups. Many of the umbraged people on those threads have been pretty inconsiderate of the feelings of others when it comes to different issues. I guess it really does depend on whose ox is being gored.
