46. If you said "polarized"...
I might agree. Just because Rush Limbaugh "hates Hillary" and "little democrats" doesn't mean they are good things. All they have to do is crank up their noise machine and elicit resistance to guide us in a direction of their choosing.

38. {LF}{CR} was never used.
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 11:41 AM by Tesha
<CR><LF> was useful because the Teletype carriage's
motion back to the left margin was "buried" under
the time it took to execute the line-feed. That is,
the line-feed acted as a sort of purposeful "fill
character".

By comparison, <LF><CR> would have caused the
next character to be printed while the carriage
was still slewing back to the left margin. (Trust
me on this; I know! ;) )

44. I'm an old systems software guy. I did a lot of work on spooling software ...
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 02:43 PM by TahitiNut
... back in the old days. Yes, I was also intimately familiar with TTY (ASR/KSR) devices and "glass TTYs." Besides being the chief software support person for HASP (from the MFT/MVT days, later called JES3), I worked on utilities and standalone systems for taking in spooling tapes from a variety of outside non-IBM systems. I clearly remember formatting protocols where <CR> was interpreted as a <CR><LF> (implicit LF) and protocols with <LF><CR> sequences in lieu of the more common <CR><LF> sequence. Hell, I even remember when the <CR><LF> sequence sometimes had embedded pad <FF> characters for 'timing'.

 You can take my word for it or not.
