5. yes, in fact the photo I used in the POSter thread...
That photo in the Time for a POSTER thread is my own, just a bad snapshot, but nontheless my own. Had never been to DC before and so at age 56 or so(been awhile back heh) I had a chance to go as my son got stationed close by. From the pictures of what these cringing thugs have done with concrete barriers and such I doubt I would like it quite as much now.

9. Sort of...
They had a portable replica of the wall that they were taking around the country when I was in middle school, and my class went to see it when it came to our town. It was indeed very moving...though I imagine that having an understanding of what it's like to live in a world where you hear about another life or ten wasted in war every day, it would be even more significant now.

14. Yes. Looked up the name of elementary school friend.
I lost touch with him after elementary school, but my aunt saw his mom on occasion, so that's how I found out he had been killed there.
He was the only person I knew who died there (or at least the only one I knew about).

Just a poor kid from south Georgia. Thought he was doing something for his country, etc, etc.

18. Yes. There's also a great children's book by Eve Bunting.
It's called The Wall and it does an excellent job of describing the significance of this monument to kids. Very touching.

19. I was there about seven years
ago and at night - it was eerie, touching and somewhat surreal. The Vietnam Women's Memorial was covered with mementos and to see the photos and memorabilia brought home how devastating war is.

designer of the wall, and back in the mid-'80s, a fellow at my residential college (never "dorm" :P ) within Yale. And so one Saturday we all got to chow down on our waffles and gooey syrup with Maya Lin!

23. I was there while attending a USWA march....
in the spring of 2002. I found the names of two high school buddies and of my cousin who was killed during his last few days in country. I could tell the Vietnam Veterans that were there,they all had that 100 mile stare. It was a very moveing experience for me.

I am a Vietnam era veteran, I was never in country but I did work and train alongside many who were. A lot of these guys were seriously messed up because of their experiences there.
