I'm thinking...if you don't want dissent, you're in the WRONG place...
We've had plenty of time to bash the GOP. And some of us have done a bang-up job at it. We fought hard to get Dems elected in '06 and expected something, anything, to change. But, yet, we find that the GOP still gets its way far too often. The netroots (DU, MoveOn, etc...) are painted as "fringe" not only by the Blue Dogs and their ilk, but even by people HERE.

So we don't represent the party. We represent PART of the party. The part that is more disgusted by easy capitulation on wire-tapping, on the war, than we are about a stupid political advertisement. You know, the part of the party that doesn't trust triangulation, and thinks bipartisanship is code for "doing whatever the Republicans want to do."

If people don't like it that we're pissed at our Congress-critters for jumping the fence, maybe they should just take their happy asses somewhere else. Gawd forbid we should actually criticize our elected "representatives." It might make a Republican happy somewhere.

Maybe if they'd stop DOING this shit, we'd stop criticizing them.

Now THERE'S an idea.

3. Maybe no one here should be telling anyone else here
that they don't belong here and should go someplace else if they're thinking doesn't meet certain criteria.

8. Maybe some people should stop telling us to shut up.
Or implying that we're trolls for criticizing the Dems for screwing up. Again.

Just an idea.

11. People on ALL sides do that and suggesting
that YOU have the "correct" view of who should or shouldn't post here is bullshit.

Just a thought.

12. I'm not saying that at all...
I'm just saying that if they don't like dissent, they're in the wrong place. DU will never be a good little echo chamber and if that's what they want, they should consider going somewhere that IS.

See the difference?

4. Spot on.
DU is a hotbed of protest and dissent, something that is a REQUIREMENT for Democracy to work properly.

5. I'm with you.
I voted for a Democratic agenda, not one that's Republican-lite.

If the DLCers and Blue Dogs don't like my criticism of them, they can suck it. I refuse to play nice with them, or the Republicans that seem hell-bent on turning our country into modern-day Nazi Germany.

7. I'm proud to be in the anti-corruption, open government wing of the party
and I cringe that the establishment protection wing thinks we should go away - we're just 'goo-goos' to them.

Oh well - they have their wing of the party and I will work relentlessly to shrink that wing.

9. "Maybe if they'd stop DOING this shit, we'd stop criticizing them"
and they are pushing for war in Iran(see Iran Freedom Support Act)
we are supposed to put up with even more of this shit?

10. You know, if they'd back off Iran,
(and if Stupid Boy President wouldn't have mentioned them in his Stupid Boy 'Axis of Evil' speech in the first place) the hard-liners wouldn't have so much political pull there. Iran had a strong pro-democratic movement that took it on the chin because of Dubya's idiotic statement.

How about someone takes the time to condemn HIM for his idiocy on this?

Well, that's probably expecting too much, isn't it?

which would mean that our party doesn't stand for what they say it does, right?

To me DU has always been about a chance to speak with others that have compassion and courage, if we listened to the "Be careful what you say and do" and "how dare you insult the 'leaders', we must follow our 'leaders' without criticism" crowd - wouldn't this become the site that we loath?

I cannot believe the change here in the last 3 1/2 years I have been here, 4 1/2 if you count a year of lurking. I never thought I would see the day that a DUer would agree with tasering a disabled person in a wheelchair. Seems to so be much less empathy and compassion here nowadays.

Great OP! :applause:

20. Not Only Are We Part Of The Party, We're A Smart Part Of The Party
We knew from the get-go how bad 43 and his band of merry robbers were going to be. We know, and knew when they told whopping lies, which is mostly always. We knew there were no WMDs, that KKK and Scooter outed the agent, that the surge isn't working.

Exactly. And we are pushing the party, or dragging it screaming and kicking, albeit slowly, inexorably to the left. Because that is where the truth lies!
