Spreading the word...: A DU Project

I want to enlist your help in expanding on an idea put forth by wildbilln864 in another thread. I won't distract from this post by providing a link to that thread but here is what he said in a discussion of Blackwater possibly patrolling the streets of America:



I think wildbilln864 has hit on a real idea here to circumvent the MSM in getting the word out. I want to float it to the rest of DU and expand on it a bit.

I propose that each of us picks a topic related to the destruction of America, whether it's about signing statements and the implications or missing billions of dollars in Iraq or Silent Guardian or the systematic weakening of our Constitution or whatever it is that you see wrong about the direction this country has taken that is a direct threat to our liberty and properity.

Then, write a five or six paragraph synopsis on your chosen topic. This will fit neatly on a normal sheet of copy paper. Write them as you would if you were explaining the importance of it to someone you love whom you would not want to see hurt by changing social policies. If you are not keen on writing something yourself, then post article and blog blurbs and links on your chosen topic providing an excerpt and source link.

Then, post your synopsis to this thread so that everyone will have access to them. In the subject line when posting, put your topic title.

Then, anyone who wants to can print out your report and make as many copies as they wish for distribution in "...laundrymats, waiting rooms, wherever people may pick one up."

This weekend, I will attempt to make this happen. I will write something myself and post it here.

If this is a dumb idea, then this thread will fade away like all the rest. If it's a good idea, then perhaps we can circumvent the media by spreading the word...ourselves.

Even if just one person does this and accomplishes
informing an otherwise un-informed citizen, it has
succeeded.

makes 100 copies and distributes them anyway we can, perhaps it will help get the word to people who otherwise may not know what's going on. Then, hopefully, those people will begin talking...and making copies.

I hope this doesn't fade because I truly believe this could be key to bringing down this regime. In fact, I just printed off some info the other day for my neighbor. Your idea could affect many. I think a big part of our nations problem lies in the peoples awareness. Too many have no idea what has actually taken place the last 7 years. It is our job to inform them because the media certainly won't. My topic will be the PNAC. I have posted before that I am repeatedly shocked to find out how few have heard of these warmongers. Informing the public of their existence could bridge the disconnect that folks have when it comes to understanding/believing that this administration had an agenda to invade countries prior to 911. Many people refuse to accept this because they don't want to believe that their government could use such a tragic event to enforce their own crazy ideologies. The fact that PNAC existed before 911 and that most of its signatures are members of the President's cabinet members (most notably..the VP) is plenty to disprove that notion. IMO, information is the key. A big Kick & Rec from me.

One thought I have is to decide on an appropriate forum so they won't get "lost" in GD.

I wish you luck with this idea...however, there are many ways for those who want to get alternative information. We've never had so many sources and viewpoints. All it takes is a browser and the desire to want to see/hear. The problem isn't the media as it as much as it's how polarized this country has become.

As we've seen endlessly, Repugnicans live in a parallel universe where they only want to see what they see and dismiss anything that messes up their "beautiful minds". Sadly, I see the same thing on the left (all Democrats are DINOs, evil, sell-outs) or that tin foil hats are so firmly in place that every story is either being covered up or some conspiracy.

Sadly, a large number of people just tune it all out. They may not like or support the war, but they're not looking to get hit over the head with it. After 5 years of this quagmire, if you're not tuned into whats going on now, then you don't want to be.

If you want to "spread the word", I'd save time and resources and wait until a week or two before an election...when people are paying attention to the issues.

I will do that today and tonight, and then when I go to wash clothes at the laundry mat, I will leave several. Now, I just have to pick the best topic.....so many to choose from.

A better option is campaign statements like "OUT OF IRAQ NOW" Easy to remember; Easy to Spread.

the activists forum did this. It did not pick up steam. Maybe the materials are still around. Hopefully people will follow through. There is power in the idea of becoming the media.
