Why I unabashedly want the Democrats to crush the rethuglicans in '08
Edited on Sat Sep-29-07 01:36 PM by cali
Nothing but nothing will improve until we decimate the rethugs in the House and Senate. For 12 years they ran this country into the ground. Democrats disappoint me all too often, but nothing, and I mean nothing compares to the level of malfeasance the repukes perpetrate. Worried that the dems are corpocrats? Well, yeah, but the repukes are tenfold worse. A choice between two evils, you say?
Perhaps, but the repukes have honed corruption and heinous policy making to a fine art. No difference between the two parties? Don't even start.

A large majority in the House and Senate will give liberals and progressives more power. The progressives in the House are already a sizable caucus. I want to add to it. Mark Warner may not be the most liberal guy in the world, but he's a hell of an improvement on John Warner, and Mark Udall of Colorado is a liberal and one of the strongest environmental voices in the House. Jean Shaheen over John Sununu? Hell yes.

I don't expect everything at once, but a Senate and House with increased majorities and more liberals, does give me some small amount of hope. And crushing the rethugs and repudiating their nauseating agendas, is a first step toward a new policy zeitgeist.

And oh yeah, one more (petty) thing: I want to go to freeperville on election night to gloat and laugh my ass off at the rending of garments and gnashing of teeth.

1. I tend to label them "corporate enablers" for a reason.
Edited on Sat Sep-29-07 01:14 PM by Selatius
Such a term is devoid of partisanship because there's more than a fair number of parasitic lobbyists who've penetrated both sides of the political aisle. Short term, it makes sense to elect more Democrats than Republicans, but if those new Democrats are corporate enablers, then when it comes time to push truly progressive legislation like the Employee Free Choice Act making unionization easier, they could become as bad as the Republicans as far as voting AGAINST the legislation when it comes to the floor.

If you want to increase a Democratic majority, it is also important to increase the ratio of left wing Democrats relative to right wing Democrats in the chambers of Congress. Otherwise, reforms will stand an even greater chance of floundering.

6. What's more

It sullies the reputation of the Democratic party to the point that people will be ready to elect Republicans again if there is a sufficiently shiny object being waved around (like a flag).

And on top of that, the corporatism makes the Democratic party look "divided" on bread and butter issues and rendered ineffective, even if they do have a sizeable majority. And they will still have no real defining ideology...an essential in taoday's "branding" political climate.

I find it profoundly sad that we have to talk about real Democrats as a "sizeable caucus" within the party when it should be the defining caucus of the party. 80 Democrats in the House and 24 or so in the Senate is rather sad because thy are the only ones fighting against the stream.

The word "Democrat" only means I will look at the candidate. What type of Democrat I find determines whether or not I will vot for them. Over a third of the party is dead to me, and if they think that the corporations can generate their votes, fine, but they will do it without my blood, sweat, tears, and votes. I refuse to vote in Democrats that will betray the progressives who are already there.

3. Wait a minute - you feel a need to EXPLAIN why you'd want the Repugnicants
crushed? They're literally destorying the country, and in many ways have aided the destruction of many other parts of the world as well! No explanation necessary!

5. Repugs work to utterly destroy us
Democrats respond with compromise.

I agree, they must be obliterated. Use the Repugs tactics on them; destroy them completely.
