The Dixie Chicks should follow Johnny Cash's Lead
Edited on Mon Feb-12-07 08:31 PM by Mortos

The inset of the picture reads:

American Recordings and Johnny Cash would like to acknowledge the Nashville music establishment and country radio for your support.

After being snubbed by Nashville and Music Row and, in spite of, winning the Grammy for Best Country Album, Johnny put this ad in an industry publication back in 1988. Country music stations have a long history of ignoring and intentionally not playing the best musicians in favor of playing the equivalent of country pop.

I would love to see the Chicks do the same thing.

Country station programmers and DJ's are claiming that the 5 Grammy wins are actually going to produce a backlash against the Chicks and result in, what, less airplay on country music radio? Nothing from nothing...

One programmer claimed country music fans are "outraged" by the wins.

1. Clear Channel programers? The same ones who refuse...
to recognize the power of progressive talk radio (i.e Ed Schultz).

Country Stations are barely playing the Chicks anymore. There can be no real "backlash".

2. Outraged? Why? Cuz the Dixie Chicks actually have more talent than
so many of the other country artists?

5. Oh, the Chicks already did it by recording that song, and winning a Grammy for it.
Believe me, they did.

11. As I've said before: The CHICKS! God bless 'em. There's still a place for courage
in this country. Oh, yes.

21. Good on you for living the meaning.
Any time. I am not a man of faith, in the way Johnny was. But Johnny gives me faith. Somehow, it strengthens both his and my case. And that is how it should be.

Glad we can share this.

Good on you for your devotion. Johnny was, and is, a great teacher. We can share that, regardless of how we interpret him. And that, no doubt, is what he wanted.

18. The local independent alt rock station just played the Dixie Chicks
Not Ready to make nice. They are on semi regular rotation on this station. I suspect they get more airplay on alt stations then traditional country radio these days.
