at this rate I think she may get a pretty decent chunk of the vote, as a sort of "watch it" message from constitutes. Too early to say.

6. The surtax is the best idea I've seen yet for getting people to confront
their support of the war.

Her only rationale can be that by doing nothing for another year, the vote will default to the Dems.

That is a scary assumption. There may be so many people fed up with the Dems inaction that they will even vote for a Repub that seems different from the current crop.

The Iraq study group report noted he was required by law

Democrats Plan to Take Control of Iraq Spending

By CARL HULSE
Published: December 14, 2006

"(...)

But the newly completed report of the Iraq Study Group stated that the “costs for the war in Iraq should be included in the president’s annual budget request,” beginning with the budget to be submitted early next year.

In addition, a little noticed provision added to a defense policy measure signed into law by Mr. Bush in October directed him to include in his budget a request for appropriations for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, an estimate of all money expected to be required for the year, and a detailed justification of the request.

“The law requires that it be done,” Mr. Conrad said, adding that he had told the incoming defense secretary, Robert M. Gates, that the administration must change its budgeting strategy.

But Sean Kevelighan, a spokesman for the Office of Management and Budget, said the administration’s view was that Congress could not “bind how the president wants to put together the budget,” though he said the administration was trying to provide more information for Congress and moving toward a more regular budget plan

(snipping)

In June, the Senate overwhelmingly approved a proposal by Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, to require the president to spell out the expected war costs in his annual spending plan.
At the time, some lawmakers expected that the provision would be eliminated from the final measure, but it survived and could be held up by Democrats as evidence that the administration was ignoring the law if it failed to comply.

Raising taxes? Fuck this shit. I don't care if the poor pay less than the rich. The war has got to end. I want to punch Dave Obey in the face. That's how mad he made me when he said, "And if you don't like the cost, then shut down the war."

Fuck you. Fuck you. Fuck you. You suck Dave Obey. How bout you support impeachment proceeeding you asshat, then I might take you seriously. Stop the war by throwing all the criminals out of office. No one who votes for war spending is getting my vote under sny circumstance. Let the Republicans rule. I'm willing to see this planet get far worse before it gets better. Apparently that's what it is going to have to take with the moronic people on this board and throughout the world. Nothing short of Nuke's flying will wake this country up.

47. So Pelosi blocks Democratic, sensible bills from reaching the floor, but Repukes can submit anything
they want?

What kind of strategy is this?

Can we take a vote of no-confidence in her leadership? It's decisions like this that really give the public the idea that we truly have a do-nothing Congress in power. And then when we have a Dem like Obey try to actually DO something, Pelosi shoots it down without even READING the actual finished proposed bill.

Pelosi and Bush are on the same side of an issue and on the opposite side of Americans. Who would have thought it when the Democrats took power this past January?

48. Nancy isn't going to raise taxes going into 08. That's politics 101. Obey knew his
bill had a snow balls chance. It's simular to the military draft bill Schumer (Ithink it was) introduced a couple of years ago. It's intended to make a point.

As long as one is willing to back a doomed endevor, I just wish Obey would sign on to impeachment. That has more House sponsors currently and less of a downside with voters than a war tax carries with it.
