Gen. Wesley Clark: Take Rush Limbaugh Off Armed Forces Radio
Gen. Wesley Clark
Take Rush Limbaugh Off Armed Forces Radio
Posted October 2, 2007 | 03:02 PM (EST)

Last week, Rush Limbaugh labeled any American soldier who supports an end to the war in Iraq as "phony." We challenged Limbaugh through an email campaign to invite VoteVets.org's Jon Soltz to his show and repeat these same insults to an Iraq war veteran's face. Over 10,000 people responded and emailed Rush -- but to our disappointment, he has refused to respond to our request.

It's time to put real pressure on Rush Limbaugh. His show is broadcast on Armed Forces Radio, and this time we are going to go straight to the lifeblood of Rush's show -- Congress. Congress has the power to remove Rush Limbaugh from Armed Forces Radio, and it won't be as easy for elected officials to ignore our call.

Tax dollars are used to fund Armed Forces Radio, and that money is not intended for radio show hosts to spout insults at our soldiers. These "phony soldiers" have simply exercised their right to free speech, as Rush Limbaugh does on a daily basis. Simply because a majority of our troops who return from Iraq disagree with Rush on Bush's failed war policy does not give him the right to dishonor their service.

Unlike Rush Limbaugh, members of Congress cannot casually brush off the concerns of citizens. Since Rush won't listen to us, we're going directly to Congress, who can prevent him from disrespecting and censoring the voices of our soldiers.

How have Republicans in Congress chosen to respond so far? Congressional Republicans have actually drafted a resolution supporting Rush Limbaugh, "commending relentless efforts to build and maintain troop morale through worldwide radio broadcasts and personal visits to conflict regions."

The rethugs are trying to hide their hypocrisy in plain site! If they allow Rush on AFR, why not Air America?

Though the best resolution is no political banter at all - since AFR is tax dollars supported.

I sure hope Rush gets his ass kicked big time on this - but mostly kicked off the radio!

Go Wes!!! :headbang:

The more the troops listen to a draft-dodging asshole like Limbaugh, the more insight they get into what the Republicans really think of them. Limbaugh is his own worst enemy, in that he reveals the Republican mindset with his revolting bleating.

25. I wonder if General Clark has a list of the smears
Limbaugh directed toward him. If its wrong to question the credibility of General BetrayUs Limbaugh must be much more wrong to have called Clark a lunatic and other such names.

During a Meet the Press interview years ago, Clark told Tim Russert that the White House,on 9/11, tried to shift blame for the attack to Iraq. Limbaugh and others on the right rearranged Clark's comments to make it appear Clark said he got a call from the White House about it. The White House denied making any such call. So Limbaugh, Hannity and George Will all said Clark was crazy. Of course, it turned out in the end that the White House really was trying to blame 9/11 on Iraq from day one. Nobody bothered to clear Clark or ask the right wing media about the smear.

Limbaugh also smeared generals like Zinni and Batiste by calling them "Clintonistas" and saying they were taking part in plots by the Clintons do achieve evil ends.

Of course, transcripts are impossible to find. I wonder if Clark saved anything. The dittoheads are now claiming Limbaugh never once said anything bad about anybody in the military.

32. Yep, I remember some of that.
Specifically, The Beltway Boys on Faux were implying that Clark was crazy because he was talking about something called the Neo-cons. They acted like they had never heard of anything such as a Neo-con.

Of course, I ask myself now, why was I watching Faux? :dunce: I must have been channel surfing and heard them mention Wes's name.

Fred Barnes was the worst of the lot.

42. My father said something so cynical about this situation, I didn't know how to respond.
He (conservative), said that I was being placated in order to avoid outrage about my party's refusal to commit to leaving Iraq. (I argued that I was backing DK, but I admit I felt pretty sunk by his statement).

37. I got this back: AFN Response: Schultz & Colmes are the liberal: Rush and Hannity are the conservat

AFN Response: Schultz & Colmes are the liberal: Rush and Hannity are the conservatives

First, thanks for your input. AFN has an obligation, backed by Congressional mandate, to provide our audience access to the same variety and diversity of programming that they would enjoy if they were back in the States. Because political talk radio is among the most popular stateside radio formats, AFN currently offers four political radio talk shows on our AFN|radio schedule: Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity represent the conservative viewpoint and Ed Schultz and Alan Colmes represent the liberal viewpoint.

We make our choices based on popularity with the American audience and we don't censor programs. Please remember that AFN strives to provide its overseas audience with a choice and lets them decide for themselves what they want to see and hear. There is no requirement for our audience to listen to anything they personally disagree with. To review the balance we strive to achieve via the totality of our radio and TV schedules, please visit http://www.myafn.net. Again, thanks for your input, and for your service. Here's what I wrote:

I am utterly disgusted by Rush Limbaugh's comments that, in effect, those who disagrees with him about the war are "phony soldiers." Now he's denying he said those exact words, and has attempted to erase all records of it.

WHAT A HYPOCRITE!!! The same guy who can slam MoveOn.org for questioning a general's justification for continuing the war - now slanders our soldiers who've seen enough to tell the truth!!!

HOW can you allow him to remain on Armed Forces Radio? As a taxpayer (who funds that service), and as a retired radio broadcaster, I am APPALLED. THIS is how you "support the troops"? I wonder how many of them feel about that. What a slap in the face!!! Please remove him before he causes any further damage or insult to our soldiers in harm's way!!! They've got enough trouble as is.

50. Brings to mind
some quotes from the late (and great) Molly Ivins...

"A group of right-wing journalists famed for their impartiality has set themselves up as the Patriotism Police. No less distinguished a crowd than Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, The New York Post editorial page and the Fox News Channel -- quite a bunch of Pulitzer winners there -- are now passing judgment on whether media outlets that do actual reporting are sufficiently one-sided for their taste."

"I have been attacked by Rush Limbaugh on the air, an experience somewhat akin to being gummed by a newt. It doesn't actually hurt, but it leaves you with slimy stuff on your ankle."

54. I read the republican resolution supporting Limbaugh....
Part of it commends RL for his "adopt a soldier" program.
That's where a listener sends RL $50 so a soldier can read his premium newsletter for a year. How patriotic of Rush!! He only needs $50 to support the troops!

The res goes on to suggest that taxpayers foot the bill to Limbaugh to grant the newsletter to all soldiers overseas.

Then we colective patriotic Americans have to kneel and suck the boil on Limbaugh's ass.

This stuff really wizzes me off
