Iraq PM al-Maliki: "A military strike against Iran is in the cards..."

Baghdad, Oct 3, (VOI) – A military action against Iran will have catastrophic results for Iraq, the region and the whole world, said Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Wednesday, calling for dialogue to settle unresolved issues.

"The mass media has overplayed the Iranian crisis. A military strike against Iran is in the cards, which we do not want because it will not only be a catastrophe for Iraq, but for the Middle East as well," al-Maliki told reporters in a Baghdad-based press conference today.
"Dialogue and peaceful means are the right solution to the crisis," the premier added.

1. I can see a million
fighters flowing into Iraq to attack our troops there. Just one of those outcomes our leaders will fail to think about when they attack Iran.

2. Iran would not do that
If the US attacked Iran, the first to go would be Iran's anti-aircraft capability. Iran sending 1 million troops to get slaughtered by US airpower would be the last of their strategies. Not to mention, it would only give Bush more support for an actual ground war, as opposed to just a bombing campaign. Iran would most certainly NOT invade Iraq as a result of a US bombing campaign.

3. Sorry, what was I thinking.
The Iranians will throw sweets and flowers. Of course we'll bomb them away like we did to the Taliban.

5. Iran doesn't have missiles aimed directly at US Military Bases
in Iraq? If they do, the minute the 1st US &/or Israeli air craft that flies toward Iran occurs, those Iranian missiles would be launched. Also, Sunburn Missiles would be launched toward US Naval vessels. Those who are salivating for a War with Iran don't have a freakin' clue of the possible aftermath. A brief study of the Iraq/Iran War could be real instructive.

9. this is a more plausible scenario
than Iran invading Iraq - although the Sunburn missiles are one of the most overhyped threats out there. The biggest threat would be the disruption of vessels in the Straits of Hormuz, and an increase in the arming of Shia militias against the US in Iraq.

11. Scenario?
Shia from all over the middle East filter into Iraq from Saudi Arabia, Iran and where ever to bring chaos to the Americans. I'm not talking columns of soldiers, I'm talking about a slow creep of fighters from all over, along with the Iraq Shia. They have proven that all the bombs in the world can not stop them. Best not to make the same mistake twice. Where are the adults?

7. No reason for Iran to enter Iraq...
because the Iraqi Shia will take of the US soldiers if we attack their bretheren in Iran.

12. I am surpised he has lasted this long.
Now that he is openly challenging the US (Blackwater/partition/Iran) I think the US will find a way to get a leader more devoted to US interests.
