I LIKE RANDI
She is one of the few people on radio who tells it like it is. Right now, she's got a lawsuit against her for calling Blackwater "mercenaries" (which, of course, they are.)

She is by far the most credible voice on radio, with her military service and her knowledge. I am sick and tired of people judging talk radio hosts by whether they are "nice". Ed Schultz is plenty "nice" but I don't trust him to keep the same opinions if the wind blows another way. Randi is a true voice and I support her.

(Not to knock "Big Eddie": he's pleasant enough to listen to. This is not a knock other AAR hosts thread.)

1. The Goddess' got a lawsuit? This could be good PR
I hope she milks it for all it's worth ... but she plays the game well, so I'm sure it'll be fun to watch the match.

5. Are they also suing Tweety?
He also called them mercenaries. They are mercenaries.

7. I'd say Thom Hartmann is the most credible voice on radio. Randi
is a loudmouth.

9. CACI sued Randi... not Blackwater
Randi said that the private security company, CACI, provided interrogators (in Abu Garib I believe) and they sued her for defamation. The jury said that Randi's so called defamatory statements could be "reasonably be interpreted as stating actual facts."

RANDI WON in court.

I love Randi. It really bugs me when she gets so bitchy and condescending. But I don't judge her too harshly for this bad behavior. She is carrying the weight of the world for us. She is a treasure and she is human.

11. "She is carrying the weight of the world for us."
WHAT?!! And we're not carrying it? I get seriously depressed about what's going on because I pay attention, and take action when needed. I carry some of that weight too. So do most other DU'ers, and many of them take on so much more than I can manage.

To say that she's carrying the weight of the world for us is perhaps the most absurd thing I've heard in a long time on DU.

13. So... you getting "seriously depressed" and taking action when needed
is equal to being sued by a multinational corporation who teaches our military how to "interogate" prisoners at one of the most notorious prison in the world.

OK, I see your point. You ARE carrying the weight of the world too. My Bad.

(I'm sorry to respond to your reply to me in such a bitchy manner. But your reply has given me some insight to what Randi deals with every day. Thank you for that Shireen.)

14. you're comparing apples and oranges
Randi.
Professional: A progressive talk-radio host, sued for speaking out against a military contractor while doing her job.
Personal: She feels distressed about the state of our country, so she does what she can to help progressive causes.

Me.
Professional: Scientific data analysis. I don't have the platform to accuse CACI in public and get sued for it.
Personal: I feel the same kind of distress she does, so i do what i can to help progressive causes.

The "weight" you talk about is personal. Here at DU, we all carry it and feel that pain, especially now after 6+ years of Bush, an unresponsive Democratic Congress, and a crop of presidential candidates with impassioned supporters and detractors on DU. Those are the main reasons for the recent strain and unpleasantness in this on-line community. We're exhausted, angry, frustrated, and sometimes, confused. So when you talk about her carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders, yes she is, but so are all other progressives.

10. I like her too...
I always find it interesting when threads appear taking umbrage at what Randi said or did and saying how they can't stand to listen to her yet it is very obvious they must be listening to hear whatever it was that outraged them, it is actually quite hilarious, imo, lol.

Could it be they listen in hopes of finding something to post a negative thread about her? Nah, perish the thought, lol.

12. I listen to almost all of the progressive shows and love them all.
But I will admit that they all rub me the wrong way at times. I don't fault them for it. I consider it more a matter of over-exposure. As much as I love my ex, If we didn't find time away from one another it would have never lasted 29 yrs.
I figure we all have our faults and I'd rather we helped each other deal with those than tear someone down for not being perfect.

15. I think Randi belongs on the spectrum.
I don't think there should be just one 'type' of progressive on the radio. I like the thoughtful policy wonk analysts, I like strictly for laughs players, I like the fire and brimstone 'I'm mad as hell!' orators. I like them all at different times, and they can all contribute by attracting some segment of the public that wouldn't respond to the other types.

As for Randi, my only concern is that she can take her anger and direct it at people who have nothing to do with it, like the callers. Otherwise, she's cool.
