Remember Dershowitz's essay on torture back in early 2003?
I was thinking about this on my way home in the car. What was his contribution to this whole thing? Was he complicit by providing consultation to DOJ and Gonzalez? Did he just serve as a megaphone to soften up the public and make the prospect of torture less objectionable? I was remembering about how out of the blue that essay was and how startling his gung ho, rah-rah interviews were at the time.

1. Nah, I doubt he was in on it.
Can't stand the guy, but he's certainly not someone who the admin would trust for a nanosecond.

and I think anyone - absolutely anyone - that pretends there is ever a reason to torture is guilty of helping to prop up the crimes of Bush Inc.

3. I remember it very well. I was outraged! I wrote him off right then and there as a fascist apologist
His "contribution" was to normalize and rationalize something that no decent human being should EVER countenance!
