More Wives Becoming Main Breadwinners
This trend must be causing some of those Fundies a heart attack – women outside the home first, and now making more than their husbands!

My wife right now makes slightly more than me. However, two of her friends make significantly more than their husbands and I used to joke with her that I would have to put a bag over my head in shame when we would get together because she was the only wife that did not make more than her husband.

And, as an FYI, we have a second floor laundry room in our house, but I do not think my wife has even opened the door to the laundry room since we moved into the house almost 3 years ago. And, she would have to ask me how to operate the vacuum cleaner or the dishwasher.

Aaron Frazier married his college sweetheart, Danielle, four years ago, knowing that she outearned him by $10,000 a year. Now that gap is even bigger.

But even though Aaron's accountant salary today is half the $90,000 his wife makes monitoring clinical drug trials, it doesn't cause any friction.

"I think both of us are pretty modern," said Danielle, 29, of Antioch, Tenn.

"She does more cooking, and I do more housework," said Aaron, 30, adding that if they had a baby, he would start out being the primary child-care giver.

Couples such as the Fraziers - with the wife bringing home most of the bacon - are becoming increasingly common and accepted among the nation's twenty- and thirtysomethings, the result of shifting education and job market patterns, and new attitudes toward work, family and gender differences.

1. My wife makes more than me - technically she's "part-time", but she still pulls in a good amount
more than me (and she deserves it!)

2. Yup, its happening....one of the reasons, it seems, is women tend to study harder/longer
throughout elementary to college....and with more women attending higher ed...the results now surface...

4. I'm guessing about 20 years from now
Nobody will even blink an eye at a woman making more than her husband...

Though, I'm guessing it will probably take closer to 2 generations (40 years) for nobody to blink an eye at a man staying home to raise the children. I actually dated a woman many moons ago just starting her medical residency (or internship, I forget) who was looking for an intelligent guy, but one who would be willing to put his career aside to stay home and raise the children so she could concentrate on her job as a doctor.

Unfortunately for me, it was not a love connection - though, it would have been nice to be in that situation.

10. Peeps hardly blinks these days, never mind 20 years hence.
I see it all the time.....

Professionals, civil service, and private corp/companies......the ratio is undergoing a shift to the well deserving female gender....

Bush should move over for Nancy....she knows what to do.......

Bush is such a loser...he makes Rasputin look good......

11. most of my wife's friends
make more than their husbands... My wife is now finally making a few hundred $ more than me per year. I used to joke with her that when we'd get together with all of our friends, I would have to wear a bag over my head in shame because my wife was the only one that didn't make more than her husband.

6. good.
It *should* be the case that in 50% of married couples, the woman earns more than the man.

7. My wife makes more than I ever did working full time!
Almost double, in fact. We are now firmly in the "totally screwed by Bush's taxcuts" bracket, but what's really funny is that I now make almost as much now as a FT grad student and PT truck-loader as I did as a grade school teacher!

8. This stuff is great
The couple should be able to decide who works and who does child care for themselves, regardless of sexual stereotypes. I admire the men who can "get over it" as this guy has.

9. there are others that haven't
But, as I said above, I think in 20 years nobody will blink an eye at a wife making more than her husband...

The younger generation is definitely more open-minded about that, as well as things like inter-racial dating/marriage and gay marriage as well.
