Anyone watching the Senate Environment Committee on C-Span3?
John Warner keeps talking about how "everyone here" (meaning members of the Committee) has responsibilities to STOCKHOLDERS and (secondly) to American citizens/taxpayers. He speaks unabashidly like his first responsibility is to the STOCKHOLDERS, hence Corporations. Anyone else watch that?

:wow:

1. It is exactly the language used at CNBC each and every day
except American citizens/taxpayers are rarely mentioned. And when I say CNBC I don't mean just the financial guys, I mean each and every political stooge which goes on the channel, Democratic or Republican. Doesn't make a difference.

4. I never noticed this before - now I am becoming acutely aware of it
As a Citizen/taxpayer AND a stockholder, I'm offended that the importance/hierachy of these two 'roles' have been reversed! And, of course, I'm shocked that it's spoken of so freely this way. Too bad that the majority of Americans who AREN'T stockholders don't realize that they're now 'second stringers'....guess it's their own fault for not 'paying attention'. :sarcasm:

5. You should see where we are in the list of users of the Federal Parks
First on the list are drillers of mineral resources, then cattle grazers. The general public is fifth on the list I believe.

2. Well, gee, I mean....corporations are people too, with
fiduciary responsibilities and, more importantly, lobbyists who can give legislators fancy birthday parties and big fat checks.

3. He knows where his bread is buttered...
Until we have public financing of campaigns, the big donors/corpocrats will rule, literally.

6. Wow - Bernie Sanders just asked Peter Darbee (Pres. & CEO of PG&E)
"Who killed the electric car?" This was met with chuckles throughout the room and no real answer, but just 'wow'....Good on Bernie!

Boxer now wondering "Why every one of those cars were flattened?"

This is really GOOD....I hope more folks with tune in and watch!!

9. Sen. Boxer got Steve Elbert, Vice Chairman of BP
to state on record that they could mix Bio-butyl(sp??) into the retail gas mix in two years time (although he stated 2010, which is 3 years by my math). Also got someone to say that this would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 25%. This change would not require new pumps or equipment at the gas station pumps, it was simply a 'mixing issue' at the refineries.

Sen. Boxer thanked the panel and stated that there was plenty of 'low hanging' fruit that would greatly reduce emissions that would not be cost prohibitive to implement. (Implying I guess, that let's 'start there' and go further up the tree).

She also did a great job of chastising the panel for using Enron as an example for ANYTHING, b/c she said (paraphrasing) "Enron no longer exists and many of their corporate members were in jail." She spoke against politicizing the environmental debate/changes necessary, b/c even those the people in front of her represented corporations, they are individuals with families and are human beings who have to live in this environment we create (or pollute) too.

Senator Boxer did an AWESOME job, and again, I would encourage anyone to watch this if it is replayed somewhere.

8. Successful Marketing
The middle class lives under the illusion that they are within reach of the american ideal represented by MSM. And by forsaking their families and their savings, they can attain all the stuff they percieve is necessary to exist. While the top 2% reap the benefits of selling junk made by slaves somewhere else and financing it at 22%, to a society so whipped into a materialistic frenzy they clamor for the next whiz bang gadget that they just can't live with out.
Consumption is killing us.

10. True, but I'd like to believe that folks are "finally getting a clue"
and I was greatly encouraged by what I was seeing today. This Democratic congress is making a LOT of headway in a very short period of time. We can't "let up on the pressure though" to see that change is actually implemented and not just talked about.
