How about stars instead - or in additon to - hearts?
Having a star next to one's name provides certain privileges on this forum. Last elections night, Skinner cautioned that if the board would be overwhelmed, posting would be restricted to "starred" DUers - as last resort. Some of us, then, made small contributions to DU and assigned stars to "starless" individuals. (This was not a DU fund drive so we had to dig a bit dipper to find the links, ha!)

I cannot donate this round but for the ones who do, please consider your fellow DUers who do visit here but, for one reason or another cannot donate.

At least, I hope that that one individual, who publicly said he would not donate, belongs to a very small minority.

One way would be to post the generous offer and then respond to the ones who would be grateful for it.

Please do not take this as belittling the star program. It is thoughtful and I am grateful for my secret donor. I am just thinking that giving stars, too, can go further.

1. So if you have money and donate
you get more priveleges?

Sounds awfully classist and republican to me.

3. "From each according to their abilities and to each according to their needs."
... is about as far from "classist and republican" as I can think of.

8. Then I misunderstood

I was under the impression that if you had donated you got more "privledges" that others DID NOT get if they did not donate. But perhaps I misread.

2. How about puppies? and kitties?
Sexual favors? Lawn ornaments?

Let's not be stingy with the extras.

6. Ooooo, I like the puppies and kitties idea. :D
My current collection of doggies would give me grief if I were to add to their number, however.

*sigh* The tyranny of the menagerie.

:D

7. most every drive i and other contribute under other people to provide stars
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 02:35 PM by seabeyond
you are right, i havent seen it this time. but there was always a fun in doing that. this time i did a large donation to renew my star. i found the last drive for whatever reason with paypal they will not let my card run thru a number of times and i was disappointed and challenged to get the star to people i had promised. i didnt donate in my name a couple cycle and needed to so i could keep my star. i was afraid i would not be able to donate again so made a larger donation

why the story

cause i love donating smaller amounts for this specific reason.

i dont like paypal. i like the old way. i never had a problem

i did want more hearts to give though, so i donated a smaller amount and it went thru. maybe i will try next cycle to do just what you suggest

9. I don't like paypal
probably the only DUer :hide:

I used Amazon and then I emailed Skinner and ask him to give stars to a list of screen names. Previously, I really did this anonymously, without that DUer's knowledge. I liked the posts and noticed a lack of star..

But I remember that, at least on that day before the elections, someone did use paypal and gave people stars left and right.
